Alpine 110 Pure - Cracked windscreen

Postby del115 » Sun Jan 05, 2020 4:12 pm

A lot of posts on this subject on the French FAR forum and today I had the misfortune in having to join in.
Today I have noticed a large crack (6 cm) at the bottom left (viewed from the front) edge of the windscreen.
Above the black edging where I assume it is affixed to the car.
An issue known to Alpine and apparently a warranty issue but disappointing none the less. :down
I purchased the car (ex Demo) in October but car was built November 2018 and has done at the moment a meagre 4500 miles.
Hopefully a phone call to my Alpine centre tomorrow will set wheels in motion for a replacement.

Sorry to hear that- with it being a known issue hopefully there will be windscreens in stock so you won't be too inconvenienced. Do Alpine actually fit them or is it one of the national windscreen places?

Excellent response from the dealer - Martins, Winchester.
Part ordered Monday, arrived yesterday and car booked in for 20th.

The work will be carried out at the dealer premises.
Not sure if this is by their technicians or an 'outside' windscreen specialist.
Either way I am happier that they will be over seeing the work.

Might be an idea, whilst the screen is out, to ask Martins to investigate for any rough edge or foreign object which may have initiated the crack, otherwise it might happen again.

Just a thought.

I got the dreaded crack

bottom right as you sit in the car so ahead of driver, in the black area not visible.

edit: and a second crack same place opposite side.

Premier edition , 7000 kms

pretty sure I know how as well - it happened some time in the last few days of enthusiastic driving on narrow winding B roads in Tasmania with lumps and bumps - the perfect a110 territory.

Never hit the bump stops on the suspension,
never hit any potholes etc but for sure the chassis was getting more stress than the first 6000 kms ..

chassis flex cracking the screen?

not sure that replacing it under warranty then not taking it for a driving holiday of similar enthusiasm will allow me to trust the replacement will not also crack at the same spot, one day.. maybe past warranty...

That’s good news if bottom right, it will get replaced under warranty without issue. The new screens have a different heat treatment so there should be no repeat.
