GTA Atmo Battery

Postby AndyClark » Sat Jan 14, 2006 12:50 pm

My GTA atmo needs a new battery. The car is completely standard and gets minimal use. I will use a trickle charger. What batteries have proved good? Will a heavy duty one be worthwhile? I've seen Varta batteries in a number of restored classic cars. Are they worth going for?

063's fit perfectly

Postby Tony Smith » Sun Jan 15, 2006 10:47 am

Instead of the expensive standard battery use an 063 - they are fitted to the vast majority of small - medium French cars and are cheap as chips. Renault were doing 3 for £58 + vat a few months back. At that price you can afford to use a couple a year. They fit fine on the GTA battery tray.
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

If you are club member you can buy a brand new 063 battery on the club Maccess account for £12.49+VAT

Otherwise a Motrio from Renault for around £20

Do NOT go to Halfords, they are about £50.

I have had bad experience of a Halfords battery that failed as, in due course, did its replacement. If you want to do the opposite and use the best fit and forget option then buy an Optima red. They last 7 to 10 years, can be left for up to six months without charge or damage and perform better in every way. The downside is, of course, they cost over £100. I have one on my Rover P5B Coupe but not yet on the Alpine although I am tempted due to the poor accessibility.
Driving an A610 is just so sublime.

I use a Type 027 - cold cranking 570 amps.

Standard size but big power for all that distance and plastic body earth issues!
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Alpine A110, Renault Safrane 2.5dt, Hudson Kindred Spirit (Renault powered), transAlp (Honda) and Ducati Multistrada
