Handbrake cable

I'm busy limbering up (so to speak!!!) to change the clutch on the GTA this week and have been going over everything that I need to do. Having looked at the handbrake cable it seems that all thats needed is to pull the lever on the calliper back and unhook the cable from the calliper .....simple! Having made a brief effort it actually seems rather hard! I havent given it a full shot yet as the car is not where its going to have its operation (!)......the question is, do I just need to use a bit more muscle and a bigger lever or does the cable not just pop off in the way I think?

Your going at it the right way. Just need a bit more elbow greese. :lol: If it still won't come off you loosen it just behind the hand brake lever.

Step 1. Locate a long length of scaffold tubing...

If you are going to disconnect the brake hoses anyway, whi not open the bleed nipple to relieve the pressure?

The main problem I encountered, when trying to fit a new caliper, was freeing the cable from the caliper body. I ended up using a junior hacksaw to cut a groove in the lug (along the direction of the cable), applied Lusol, and prised the groove open, slightly with a screwdriver.

Need to send the old callipers back for exchange so cant go massacring them. Fortunately I will be doing the operation at the local garage and they have a selection of industrial sized levers!
