Some good info on UN1 Ratios etc here just scroll down past the waffle.
http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/new-p ... page2.html

And some good info on adaptor plates here, like the sound of the Subaru boxer engine.
No Vauxhall vxr adaptor though still looking.

http://www.ultimate-engineering.co.uk/index.html

Now does anybody know where we could get custom shafts made to fit the adaptors above.
Just trying to solve the leaky box issues a few of us are suffering.

Another option I am looking at is Speedi_sleeve.

http://www.brammer.com.pl/DOWNLOAD/SKF_ ... wnload=166

Now does anyone have a spare shaft I can borrow to take to the latter to see if they have a sleeve to fit ?
May need to borrow a box too.

Dave

How about a Subaru box too?

John, Jon law replied to this in the twin turbo thread. But basically where the shafts enter the gearbox.

Dave
Below is what John Law wrote.

Its leaking from the driveshaft seals as the driveshafts have wear on the sealing face. Had the problem before, you can try reinstalling new seals a little further outboard to try and seal on a fresh surface or as Stephane from France who knows these boxes inside out suggested, machine 1.5mm off of the driveshaft and shrink fit a stainless steel sleeve of corresponding thickness to act as a new sealing face. This has worked well for him.

Dave, I would try this as it is a well known method to attempt a good seal on a worn shaft, well worth a try.
On some seal housings it is possible to install the seal slightly further inboard, but that depends if the seal is already hard against a lip in the housing. Someone with knowledge of this will be able to tell if this is possible, if not, moving it outboard mat be the only option. I would make up a shim to fit behind the sea so the seal sits square.

John you mean like a washer of correct diameter behind to push out further.
This may be possible.
However as I have never dismantled one these boxes before, anyone know how the seals fits in?

They are an interference fit pushed in and broken out.

There is no shoulder to fit up against but if they stick out too much then the outer lip will cover/interfere with the roll pin hole ......They need to be in dead true ....

So is it possible then not to have them completely pushed in?

Seems a typical French design to me, surely the seal should be the sacrificial element and wear before the sleeve. Would seem barking to have the shaft wear to protect seal.

Maybe as Lee says they need to be true! They certainly never used to leak like this.
Might be my first port of call, replace seals firstly. Are they available from Renault.

Dave ..... Lee's comments are good, but one thing worth checking is that the roll pins have been sealed with silicone as if they are not sealed, oil will leak out through the pins, and as they are close to the seal itself it might be there that you are loosing the oil, might be worth checking, also there is a breather on the top of the box and if blocked, the heat will expand and cause pressure pushing oil out through the weakest point. Just a thought. ;)

Not too sure Dave ..... you will have to feel for it I think. But worth checking if you can get to it.
