Newbie

Postby cakehead » Wed Apr 15, 2015 10:50 pm

Hi folks. Just been offered a GTA V6 "barn find" It does not run paint is knackered and it's been stood for several years. My mechanic had a quick look and said it has some corrosion on chassis and realistically it would take a lot of work to get it roadworthy. I was originally thinking of getting it and having it recomissioning for road and driving as is but now I've realised it's going to be too much to sort as I'm no mechanic and have no storage. Engine does turn over so not seized. Has anyone any ideas on value as I may still buy and have jobs done professionally if it is feasible as I always loved the look of these cars and it seems a shame to see it rot away. Or alternatively maybe buy and offer for sale to an expert if there is anyone interested. Not looking to make a large profit if I go down this route just a wage for my time. Sorry if this post upsets any experts but maybe could help get this car alive as I think they are great looking one off vehicles.

Another Newbie...welcome!

I'm sure more than one person will be able to help if you decide to get it back on the road and also a few people interested if you want to move it on for someone else (not me btw - I have enough Alpine action as it is).

First thing, where in the country are you/the GTA?

Is it a 2.8 Non Turbo or 2.5 V6 Turbo?

What Colour? Leather or cloth? A/C or ABS (This all increases value). Mileage?

As a non running project it's worth £1-2k as it sits depending on the above.

£5-7k resprayed and MOT'd/restored. Your looking at least what it's worth to do the paint and oily bits so it's not really a get rich fast proposition.

These are ball park figures before clee shoots me down in flames just to give him an idea, obviously the more that goes wrong or the better quality restoration the more it's going to cost.

Thanks for the reply. It has black leather. It states GTA V6 on the rear of the car so I assume it's non turbo but I could be wrong. It has a private plate with ALP and a prefix with one letter and 2 numbers. I have not had access to any documents as a friend has been to look at it and arrange a deal. He says it will need a full restoration in his view and is way beyond me as I am not a mechanic. I am not looking for a get rich scheme. I work in the bike trade and buy the odd scooter and small bike with small margins. Car is in Lancashire. Do not much more information as yet as I've not sealed the deal although the owner has said it's mine if I want it and it's cheap at less than £750. Cheers. :up

Lots of recent threads of this nature so have a quick browse and you get a feel for it .ABS and A/C I wouldn't expect to work if it had it in any case and costs to get those up and running would be huge so I wouldn't cost that in .Most with it don't work either ....
Worse case with rot repairs average £3.5/5k to get through MOT from non running with some rot .That's paying someone to do it properly with good parts ,no paint .

Cheers Clee I have had a browse and took in lots of information. I don't think I'll be restoring it as have no money or knowledge to do so. I will be looking at finding a new owner with a small commission. I'm not being greedy though so it will be a cheap car for someone to restore. Thanks.

Latest details are 68K. Leather interior in fairly good condition. It started off a jump start and filling of carbs with petrol with a healthy sound and no smoke from exhaust so seems really good engine wise. So it's a runner. Still needs a full resto as been stood for so long. But would make a good base but too much for me to do as I stated before. Number plate is worth a bit also.
