Newbie with a crazy vision.

Hey All!!

I'm new around here and thought I'd share with you my precious and my plans so far!

I've recently taken on a GTA project, although she has been in my family a while... But a new toy has come along so she's been sat in the garage for over 4 years with very little loving!

I decided to sell my car, that I'd already done one show season with... And by a cheap run around and save for a 911! I spent a good few months going on an on about a Porsche until my Dad said, 'wtf do you want a Porsche for when there's a white alpine outside'. I think now he somewhat regrets this statement... But I am loving it!! Ha!

I've only ever seen one alpine at the type of shows I go to and that was French Car Show a good few years back. Most of my friends have never heard of them, let alone seen one and let's face it, everyone's seen a 911!! I like to be different!

First things first... Wheels... Due to re horrid offset on the alpine I've opted for split wheels so I can buy them skinny and build them fat!! With the aim of 7.5j front - 10.5 possibly 11j rears.

Now, a lot of you will cry at my next plan... But I'm currently looking in to full air suspension also! :/ it's proving tricky but it will be a DIY job!

Would love to know peoples thoughts, whether good or bad!

Sounds like a great project, and sure you will have fun with it, always good to see new ideas and doing things differently, so
the ability to slam it right down for the twisties, and jack up to go wading could be quite fun... sure you have your own reasons mind... personally I have always kept that stuff simple, and gone a liitle nuts elsewhere, but I can see the appeal and why it has got to be worth a go... you never know, you may be able to sell a kit to pie and slippers BigM lol... joking, don't mess with the pie!

Yeah I have my own reasons... Mainly being I want it lower but I live down a farm track where a football pitch grows in the centre, even standard cars struggle! Also, the only coilovers I've come across only adjust 40mm and are close to the cost of air ride!

Everything being removed will be kept so it can be reverted back at anytime

Sounds like a fantastic project. Love the wheels. Never mind the air suspension, if you want a real challenge, why don't you get that 80s car phone working again? Look forward to seeing more phtotos.

I'd say go for it, we're not precious about these things round here, and the wheels look great. So any links to the kit you're thinking of?

Besides, you're in a very small niche of virtually one as we don't get many ladies on here.... I wonder sometimes if that accounts for the choice of avatars

Haha! Yeah I had a feeling there wouldn't be many other females... I'm used to that as I've been interested in cars since I bought my first mini age 14!

Unfortunately no links to the kit as I am building it myself :/ but I'll be photographing from start to finish so all being well I shall be able to share what I've done should it choose to work?!

Don't think you will offend too many on here. It's your car so you can do what you want.
Just don't tell the Club Alpine Renault chaps as they mightn't be too impressed.

Love the wheels too. Look very similar to the Oz Futura's on my Esprit.

Some may not appreciate your mods but we've seen enough GTAs being neglected (and eventually broken up), so anyone that's passionate about one is very welcome here.

This sounds great, are you going down the route of adapting an off the shelf air shock kit to fit the Alp? Will be interesting, be sure to post the build pics! Do you attend any shows like Players or Retro Rides, I've tried rounding up few unusual Alpines to a few of these more 'scene' shows to get the GTA's exposure but as of now no one has built a really low/cool car out of an Alp really. Check this youtube vid- you might already know this car but as soon as I saw it a few years back and thought if someone built a GTA with a similar quality and ethos to this it would be a show stopper..

I've been to quite a few 'scene' shows in my last car... But not yet taken the long journey down to players, I wil definitely be taking this to as many as possible though as they are the type of shows I attend.

The air will be a mix of original strut and universal kits... I'll be taking lots of pics a long the way!

It's taking longer than hoped as we are currently bodydropping a mk1 caddy pick up too and that's taking up all our time currently!! That's running hydro's instead... Which is a first for us due to the air struts being 6" proud of the bonnet once dropped!!

Be good to see something different, my only advice would be to make sure the strut tops can take the extra strain of the suspension. I have see a lot give way on even standard suspension.

Nice to see a bit of glamour on the forum by the way, I'm sick of seeing this ugly lot...
