Ignition module - erratic behaviour...

Postby pgoldsmith » Sat Sep 05, 2015 5:24 pm

Can someone advise where the rev counter receives it signal from with respect to the RENEX ignition module? The rev counter is being erratic at the same time the engine is hesitating on throttle. I believe the two are related and perhaps a bad connection / earth is responsible.

I have noticed that the RENIX unit has just one single bolt holding it on - the bolt closest to the bulk head which has an earth strap attached. Should this have two and would be the cause of the erratic signal - i.e. not having a sufficient earth?

I have attempted to search the forum, but I cant find any threads that help.

Paul the feed for the tachometer is from the end wire on the three pin plug that plugs in to the ign unit see page c-11 in the workshop manual. So as you thought they are connected hope this helps.

Thanks Martin. I have since bought a new Renix pack and fitted it last Sat. Seems to have cured the issue. When I first bought the car (2001) it had a similar issue which transpired to be both the flywheel sensor and Renix unit on the way out. So I guess these Renix packs are good for about 12 years or so.

I've sprayed all the connectors with switch cleaner and refitted.
Found my K & N filter looks a tad on the dirty side, so I'll get that cleaned and re-oiled.
