Engine Number

I need to find out the engine number for my GTA Turbo. I have been told that it should be on an Ali plate mounted on the engine block, but I have crawled all over it and can't locate it anywhere. Can someone please advise where this plate is, or if it has been removed or fallen off, is there a database that I can get access to which will have it logged.

You need to put the car up on a ramp and stick your head up between the passenger side rear wheel and the engine. The engine number is on the plate on the engine block, above the wishbone.

(Wear a hat, or prepare for an oily head!)

And as for the database, Renault don't even have one. I've checked!!!

On A310s I think it's stamped on the cylinder head, just to the right of the water pump.

I'd test you out David but I'm in Pau France and so I wouldn't be able to confirm your answer.

3 days in France so far and not a single sight of an Alpine, shows what a rare beast they are even over here. Still it impressed some of the guys here at Total 'Ah un Alpeeen'. Instant street cred.
