A610... help!

The eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted that I picked up an A610 off the 'bay whilst you were at Donnington.
It's not for me but I am custodian for a few weeks!
So, not surprisingly a few minor problems. The headlights, they pop up, but they don't pop down.
The heater control knob does very little, pumps out warm air all the time.
The car has barely been used for about 5 years, could this be the reason the headlights don't drop down?

Hi Rupert, Not sure about the headlamps, will have a look at my factory workshop manual. The heater and air cables are a known problem and I fixed mine by taking the console apart, re-routing the cables, adding a bit of silicon lube and putting light helper springs at the airbox end. They are better than new after that and quite reliable. Careful not to lose the little plastic clips at both ends of the cables. You have to use Renault Trafic ones to replace them. Cheers

As above with the heater cables, the headlights you have to turn the manual pop up buttons under the bonnet until you get them in the right position, had mines winking and all sorts at one time

Yeah, the motors spin the knobs and lift the lights, but I have to wind the knobs to get them back down again. For some reason the motors don't wind back again.
I'll take the covers off tomorrow and see whats what.

Ben Hillier has the same problem. Motors are still available but one side is very expensive. Who's the lucky new owner?

if you adjust the knobs slightly with the headlights down they should work, i had the same problem with mine and all it needed was a few twists of the knobs to get them working again...its worth a try!

Ignore what i just said, I just went out to my car and had a look, what you need to do is lift the bonnet turn the lights on and watch what way the knobs turn, when the lights are up slacken the knobs off a bit, it does work!
I tightened mines a bit when the lights were up and they would'nt go down

Remember, the pump is electric, not hydraulic, so it could be as simple as a fuse or relay...

The assistance on the PAS isn't strong (at least not on mine anyway), but its defintely there- try turning the ignition off and feel the difference.
You should be able to hear the pump prime when the ignition first goes on (its switched on by the fuel pump relay) and then it will have a highpitched whine when running.
If the pump isn't working and its faulty, you'll need to talk to BBA reman about getting it fixed. It allegedly has the same internals (but some external differences) to an early Clio unit.
If the rack is faulty, then it will mean finding someone who can rebuild it- new ones aren't available- although Mr Dell knows the whereabouts of one. (Or living without the PAS).

Managed to strip out the dash console and fixed the heater/air con for now! Cables now attached at both ends and siliconed up...

PAS still n/s, tho' I'm sure I feel it occasionally, will check the wires...

how did you get on with the lights?

... not a problem, I just drive during the daytime!
