Long shot, but as the pump is a motor structure, maybe the bearings have gone and once it warms up and is subjected to g-forces it stops..

Prior to fixing the engine harness problem that made mine cut out, if it was in a bad mood it would start and tick over fine but stop if you moved off. I discovered that if I drove it backwards it would keep going. (I had to do this to stop blocking up a major road once). This was all caused by the engine moving on its mountings and shifting bad electrical connections about. I bet when you finally sort this it will turn out to be something very simple!!! :?

And they don't come much simpler than a wire !!!

The stereo and all lights etc stay as as usual when it cuts out. The rev counter does not drop down, it just progressively drops with reduction in engine speed.

An interesting thing did happen tonight, driving back from Notts. Not sure if it has anything to do with the problem.... As i mentioned somewhere earlier in this massive thred, the turbo warning light comes on progressively as the car is used. Tonight while drivng back i noticed it hadn't come on at all (i would normally expect it to at least be dim after a few miles), then as i was going round a right hander, suddenly it popped on and quite brightly.
Is this warning light controlled by the lower sensor on the bracket next to the turbo? And does this give a signal to the ECU for overheating?

No cutting out probs tonight though... :?

According to the manual the lower sensor only supplies the warning light but I dont know if the GTA is different to the A610. I dont know why it should be as if anything it is much simpler.
Driving an A610 is just so sublime.

Lights that are dim always lead me to suspect earthing problems, especially when they should either be on or off. If the light is dim, then there is a good chance of "parasitic earthing" where another device is earthing through the bulb because its own earth is dodgy.

The fan/engine bay warning light and the engine management system and the fuel pump relay all appear to be earthed through the "Injection Moteur" earth point (M8 on the wiring diagrams). I am not at home so I can't check the exact location of this but it looks like its somewhere on the right-hand side of the engine, near to the oil filler Presumably it comes out of the big fat cable-tidy that has all of the engine managenemt wiring in it. I'd strongly suspect either this point or the main engine earth strap. I know you've gone round all of the earths already but could this one have been missed due to it's position?

Every now and then I start my GTA Turbo up, drive about 1/2 mile and whilst slowing down to stop at the lights the engine dies. Doesnt do it at any other time only when it's just been started up from cold and I come to a stop before its warmed up, it's as if the choke (if it had one) isnt on.

I thought someone somewhere mentioned about an inherent ECU problem?

I've searched the threads but struggling to find an answer.

Dont suppose you could guide me as to where abouts I can find this idle speed control valve ? Is it something that will need to be re-set after its been cleaned?

Warning lights

Ben,
As you mentioned, when it cuts out you get No warning lights. You would expect a few, at least battery etc) This is odd and would rule out fueling issues. Sounds like an electrical gremlin to me too. Loose connection some where, start car and shake each cable and bonding lead to try and replicate fault, when warm.

It actually seems fine at the moment, thought this is due to me covering the manifolds in heat wrap and wiring the de-perk fan up to a switch to turn it on when its getting warm. So i have stopped the symtems but might not have cured the problem. Fingers crossed it keeps going - next weekend should be a good test! :?

I've removed the idle speed control valve and cleaned it, however today it cut out again - same problem, cold(ish) engine, foot of accel. coming up to lights, engine dies.

Where can I find the vacuum pipe leading to the map sensor, as David suggested to clean this out as there may be crap in there?

It runs to the map sensor just below the coil and ignition module. There are 2 there you want the one that goes furthest underneath. The first is connected the overboost switch (which is round). The mapsor is not easily visable and is rectangular in shape with 3 wires going in the back of it.
