A further question... The Laguna z7x engine I have, if it had David's cams and full Emerald (or modded R25) management, new exhaust... what sort of power then? What would have to be changed on the injection system?

210 is the figure usually quoted for the 12V running a modded ECU and straight through exhaust

Not sure what the cams would be worth.

The inlet manifold can be turned around, so that the intakes face backwards. I don't know if it would then clear the water pump. I have seen this done on a 24v fitted to a 504 Cabriolet. The reason I don't know about pump clearance is that he has fitted an electric water pump sold by Davies Craig.

Are you sure?, i thought the ports on head were staggered against eachother, i.e not symettrical, so it you rotate it 180 degrees it will be out of line. I know this is true on the 12v models..

It fits but!

Iain's car is very quick as I have had the privilege of being taken for a spin in it but it can't be ideal for the air filters to be at the back of a very hot engine bay, can't help but think theres a few bhp to be found with some judicious re-plumbing of the induction system

It would be worth on that engine, fitting 180 degree silicone bends from the inlet and straight pipe ducting to where the intercooler normally sits on a Turbo.

The 504 Cabriolet I only saw two days ago running with the 24v motor, with the intakes at the same end as the crank pulley. The owner said he simply turned the inlet manifold around.

If the manifold clears various pipework, it would be a big plus for fitment on an Alpine. He had fitted an electric waterpump, negating a lot of pipe fittings.

That would certainly make a lot of sense, and I'll be able to make a decent airbox in the intercooler space as David says...

In fact looking at the picture it would also make the fuel line connections and throttle cable fitment much easier

Why hasn't it been done then!

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Feb 02, 2005 4:07 pm

If its just a matter of turning it round then I'm sure the company which converted Iain's car would have done it - I bet you find there is a problem with the water pump as I had to change the one on my A610 engine for a GTA one to allow clearance for the plenums.

It would make sense with the guy in Oz using an electric pump, you can then put it anywhere you like...

Well at long last things are moving on with mine...
It was not possible to turn the inlet manifold around 180 degrees which was a shame. Firstly the thermostat/water pump housing was in the way, but also the ports don't match up at all. This was a bit of a surprise, tho if it were possible I am sure VEC would have dome it to Iain Blacks car.
Lots of little problems, clutch spigot completely different, bellhousing doesnt match the engine, but slowly getting around it.
Going for the mecaparts pipe and manifolds for simplicity.
Emerald ECU.
Anyone lend me some cash! Still haven't sold the house

Engine is now back in!
With a Mecaprts exhaust... needed a little modification. We have put the new timing wheel on the pulley end so the exhaust box needed to be moved back a little, also the tail pipes do not match the cut oputs in the Le Mans bumper (which I was expecting)
Still wiring in the Emerald system. :?
Stephen, I would love to know the opening /rev points for the idle valve things on the plenum.....
Can you check your info.
