These will all be the later 60 degree engines rather than the 90 degree engine needed for the GTA


Is the 60 degree the LX7?

Is the L7X version wet-liner type?

What parts are shared with the 12v?

Its explanation time Ady....you dont have an Alpine and so far you havent let on what you are after the engine for so I'm guessing your Volvo or Talbot Tagora has broken :lol:

Yeah, sure I'm planning on a MR kitcar and wondered what engine to put in it, I've since been steered in the direction of the PRV.

I must admit I'm a bit prejudiced :? , but it is wet-liner and sounds better all the time.

So no I'm not an Alpine owner, I said right from the start and have nothing to put back, but I could use the help?

You should get a Vauxhall V6 from an Omega.....far more common over here if it all goes wrong. If youre talking fantasy V6 then I'd recommend the 24v Alfa V6...ideally from a 164 Cloverleaf (240bhp as standard!) that engine is the sexiest sounding engine on the planet.
I assume from you plan to use a V6 that this car is mid or rear engined?

Hi peterg,

Yes it is mid engined, thats what MR means (+Rear drive)

I dunno about the engine truth be told, but it has to be smooth so that rules out the L4's and any knowledge I have!

Due to it being light, with an expected max weight of sub-1000kg, I could use a cammy engine which would be a problem for your cars? :?

Also, even at that weight I'm prepared to sacrifice a lot of low-end driveability! :twisted:

I may even use the UN1 too as that 24v in the tuning pics supposedly kicks to the tune of 440lb/ft?

I've thought of every engine from the Jag/Lincoln to the 2Litre K Series.

I've always liked French technology, especially wet-liner engines and also prices for complete 25 Turbos rarely exceed £500 near me.

So if I broke it, it wouldn't hurt too much to just start again.

If I could estimate an engine/build spec?

Also with the other engines ther's not as much support!

Will the kit you're doing not support a transverse mount V6, such as the existing setup of L7X and transverse box, straight from a Laguna, or 24v from the 605? UN1s are few and far between now, and most are over 15 years old, heavy too...

Is this MR a main stream kit? I cant picture it or imagine what set up it has. From what youve said the engine is mounted in line with the gearbox behind it. By picking a PRV and un1 you are choosing fairly elderly technology (and getting scarce) for a brand new car. You could pick up a 24v V6 from a Vauxhall Omega in any scrap yard in the country and could easily get a low mileage one......something you may have trouble with on the PRV front. The gearbox should also fit your kit and again is plentiful and newer. Remember an R25 turbo will be at least 15 years old.......they only killed the Omega in 2003.

Er, not really, prefer longitudal. :wink:

UN1s are few and far between now, and most are over 15 years old, heavy too


Well, theres a few 2 minutes walk away!
It's an oldie, but a goodie?
Heavy? Yes, thats a bummer.

I may also use an Audi O1E yet, so that isn't definate.

Thanks for your comments but I hate new engines!

Look at the Duratec or all-iron Zetec compared with the Cossie.

Compare the all-alloy large-port Peugeot engines with the new small-port iron ones.

You dig?

I also don't care about low-milage as it will be rebuilt anyway.

The Mitsubishi GTO Turbo V6 is close, but still crap when compared to the PRV and much, much more expensive!

My main criteria, other than V6 configuration, is wet-liners.

Comparing the Cossie to the current range of Ford engines isnt very fair......it was built with competition in mind, the current engines were designed to be cheap to manufacture and economical! A better comparison would be vs Pinto......I know which I'd have! If you compare the Vauxhall V6 to the PRV there isnt much comparison....the Vauxhall does pretty much everything better.
From what you say youve already made your mind up about engine choice......so go buy one, and keep us updated!

Well, truth be told I haven't!

Still considering my options, but the PRV is the frontrunner!

It's hard because I'm also having to sort suspension Geometry etc.

To maybe give you an idea:

Axed:

Presumably if the car is going to be mid engined you are putting the gearbox behind the engine....wont you have a problem with reversing the drive of the gearbox???

No, Ford GT40 and Ferrari P4 Replicas use it all the time.

The box you have is different to the Renault 25's, even though it is labeled UN1.
