Problem is I don't fancy my chances of getting the TDC back in place without a lot of blood spilled and have considered access through the body cutting an access hole behind the rear offside seat... Problem is the heat shield looks like it is in the way and it doesn't appear to easily come out either! Has anyone else contemplated this or am I just barking mad? Obviously the hole will need suitable cover and sealing after job done!
Any other crazies out there?

Nope, Ive considered this, as its a good mod to get access to the TDC sensor for tuning by advancing the ignition timing. Problem is the heatsheild as you say....It would need to be removed to cut a hole in it, and to get that out you need to move the turbo anyway, which removes the problem of getting to the sensor in the first place..
