It will sell apart from the first cars which will be bought by enthusiasts, the new generation never part with cash as one they don't have £60,000. Two they want the latest thing for a short time and then hand it back to get the next latest thing in 1/2 years time it's called a pcp.

Went to the London Car show expecting a big stand for Alpine.
It was tucked away in the corner..with nothing to demarcate the Alpine stand, and the staff seemed equally unenthusiastic/casual, and maybe a bit disinterested.

No printed handouts etc..

Shame really...

The car looked good but did not stand out...and the stand was not mobbed.
Tesla however was probably the busiest..folk crawling all over the car.

The marketing of the A110 is unusual to say the least. The point of difference for this car is not made clear. Nothing to point out the features.. aluminium/ mid rear engined etc.
Bizarre !!!!

(I should say this is a bit of a shame as the session on Tue night at Renault UK was really good..and I had great hopes )

I reckon May and co will be re-launching British Leyland to thank all those Brexidiots .

Thats funny,
I was there today too and the stand was busy.
The sales person was telling everyone of the merits performance etc what it caters for.
And that all UK version have been sold.

Thought the car looked great and did stand out.

Hi
New member here and have recently placed my deposit.
I've read a lot of the comments here, and particularly the negative ones. I fit into the category that many have said will be the cars downfall. I'm 50+ and have had fast Audi's, Nissan GTR,s M BMW's etc. I've finally realised that getting the fastest isn't as fun as it used to be (probably age related) and see the new Alpine as a genuine alternative to a Cayman. I don't want a Porsche, I want something different. I do want paddles and I do want a decent stereo. I want some fun. Yes Lotus make amazing cars, but I need a bit more refinement.
I can't wait to see the Alpine on our roads and hopefully it'll be a great drivers car. I'm fed up of journalists whinging about the lack of a manual. Look at the cars they drive day to day, not a stick in sight!
I'm excited!

Can I just ask why you want paddles? Out of all the additional stuff in recent years its the one thing I just don't get. I've got a car with paddles and never use them. They just seem like an auto but using two levers to move up and down the gears rather than using the stick in the centre console to drop a gear. But they aren't remotely as smooth as a good modern auto box.

Hi,
I'm currently in a manual but my previous 3 vehicles all had decent paddle shifts. In auto mode they seem to be trained for economy so the paddles just let me decide the gear I want to be in. I do have to suffer the M25 daily and personally I've come the the conclusion that the clutch pedal has had its day!
All down to personal taste but as vehicle technology moves forward I just don't see a place for a gearshift.

It has a 7 speed wet DCT. So choice of full auto or can paddle shift faster than a professional race car driver using a manual transmission.

Apparently the transmission package was part of the weight saving too. No stick, linkage, third pedal, smaller console etc.

Allegedly quicker round a circuit than a manual and you get to keep both hands on the wheel.

However the engineer at the presentation said no manual option at the 'moment' so who knows.

Guess the journos will have the final say though.

Evo loved the new manual Vantage S but no one bought one!

Does it have something like a dual mass flywheel?
If so, then there's no weight saving...

No doubt it can change gear extremely quickly on a track or along the Stelvio pass, but most of these systems aren't quite so smooth in real life driving.
That's not to say a manual is, but as you're doing the changing you're expecting any 'jolt'.
Add in the joys of yet more electronics to fail...

    Longtime lurker but new member here.

    Personally I wouldn't mind paddles. If they were available on the fiat abarth in the US I probably would have purchased that over the 5 speed. But that's fiat....

    Also as a "yank" I'm pretty excited for this car and hope that alpine makes it to the USA. For starters it isn't a Porsche, it's prettier than the alfa 4c, its faster than most cars on the road while being more luxurious then a lotus and it builds on a fairly prestigious brand even though most haven't heard of it here.

    My dad had an a110 model so all through growing up ive seen that car but never started to appreciate until I reached my mid 20's. Any time a US mag writes an article on this car there is a large swath of people that say they want this car but those are enthusiasts. If they can market this thing through Infiniti dealers here or even better use their partnership with Mercedes I have no doubt this car would get picked up by your average luxury/sportscar buyer here in the states and be successful.
