coolant temp gauge

Oh well here we go
Connected to the housing with turbo written on from the intercooler to the turbo is a hose this morning this blew off and the temp gauge went through the roof.
No steam or anything I have reconnected the hose but the temp gauge is still at the opposite end of the scale that it should be any Ideas out there please.
Do you think one of the rubber bands is broken or the pump has gone walkies? :roll:

Its pitch dark I can't even find where they should be, do I crawl underneath. I used to have a renault 12 that was simple :lol:

ok now, easy does it.

1. find a working torch

2. open passenger door.

3. locate rear hatch release lever.

4. pull.

5. open glass hatch and prop open engine cover.

6. now switch on torch.

7. shine torch to the front (rearmost) of the engine.

8. if pulleys are visable with no rubber bands, then new band needed.

Oh I'm not that bad but I was a little concerned when I discovered somebody had moved the engine from the front to the back seems a bit skoda ish to me.
But seriously I found the belt from underneath its still where is should be, is there a sensor or something inside the hosing that blew off. Connected to the hose that blew aff is a Bosch fitment do you think this is knackered. The engine isn't running long enough for the temp to rise that much, water in the bottle is warm not hot (very dirty).

That sounds like the dump valve hose. The metal insert can come unstuck from the Turbo pipe. Completely unrelated to the coolant temp being high though...

I need the bloody thing to get towork in the morning do you think it will get there at 50mph ish 30 miles, there is a guy near where I work that can look at itduring the day.
I have reconnected the hose using sparco stuff metal pipe etc seem ok.

Don't panic ,if the needles in the red and you can open the bottle without steam cleaning your arm then it's probably a w**k gauge/sensor .If it was really that hot you would have blown several hoses and gaskets and ect by now......................................

Hah, Should have known it would be simple, it's all to do with the side lights. If you turn the side lights on the temp gauge goes off the scale turn them back off again and all is normal. eeeeeeeerrrrrr means I have to be home before dark though.

Sounds like the illumination power feed in the gauge cluster has joined with the signal feed to the gauge. Have you been having a fiddle around in there lately? :wink:

No but the weather was very cold the other night and my window was slightly open, inside the screen froze, when defrosting a lot of water around so I think some may be in the electrics. It was the dump valve hose that had come off I have replaced with a new one. What exactly does this valve do is it an item that should be uprated / replaced for improved performance. I see you sell them!

Sometimes that can go fault, as they are just a plastic diaphragm and a spring, and they can get stuck and leak boost, but then again it may be ok. An uprated one is far more reliable, but you may only notice a performance increase if there was a fault with the older one. It will stop boost dropping off as much with an uprated one though than the standard one, due to the stiffer spring..
