ABS Not Working

Hi- I have a problem with the ABS on my 610- its the usual one, its not working (can there be another fault??)
The light comes on with the ignition and goes off when the engine fires, only problem is that I have been able to lock either front wheel and have never felt any pulsing on the pedal- or had the light blink when doing so (mind you I might have missed it as my mind was elsewhere when it happened.....)

ARR have checked the sensors- they are working, but could not run any diagnostics on the ABS computer. As the warning light works I have assumed this means the fuses are OK? Is this reasonable?
As any items for the system are expensive (not to mention a pain to get), I want to definitely find out which bit is faulty. The Manual on this site has a fault finding chart, but my French is not good enough so...
does anyone have an English version of the ABS fault finding chart or any suggestions as to tell if the Computer, Modulator, Yaw sensor or Wiring is at fault?
Alternatively has anyone found a good ABS specialist?

The abs brain has a speed input wire, so it will only activate the ABS over a certain road speed. All the diagnostics will work fine, light go on and off etc, but the brain will always think the car is stationary even when it is moving and not activate the abs..

Could be this wire (doubtfull) or the brain itsself...

..or the signal. You may have had the sensors checked, but are they actually kicking out a signal..?

Paul Sage checked out the sensors are pronounced that they were working OK, I don't know what tests he did, but he could not interrogate the ABS computer.
As the ABS computer uses the sensors to get the speed signal, it would have to be a wiring fault so that all 4 were broken- if one was still working the warning light would be on continuously wouldn't it?...
I can see I'm goig to have to learn more than I ever planned about ABS 5.5- the part numbers for the major bits seem to be common to the GTA, but my GTA workshop manual does not mention ABS at all.
Has anyone got the relevant pages of the A610 workshop manual in English?- there is a fault finding sequence but my french is not good enough.
Otherwise its babel fish and I'm not sure I want to diagnose a car by babel fish......

Yes, sorry, I meant is the brain receiving the signal at the loom end. Have you checked the plug at the brain?

Check the ABS rings on the front hubs too, I assume it was the front that locked up.

It may be worth experimenting with unplugging various ABS sensors, and checking that it actually does generate a fault with the light on the dash..

Yes I have only managed to lock up the fronts- both sides, but individually- will look at the loom, visually it looks in great condition, but that isn't always enough...
If you manage to lock the rears that might be fatal???

Intertesting idea from Simon- do we have the cars so we can conquer the french, or get pleasure from them?
