ATMO Tuning

Hi, im a new member with a new (to me) atmo. My dream has finally come true, yay! Could you tell me what my options are to make my lovely new car go that bit faster? Any idea of cost to benefit? Cheers Jon

Triple carbs, cams, exhaust with manifold and you should have over 200bhp....but it could cost a bit!

Advance the timing slightly on the dizzy, fit a better fuel pump and adjustable fuel regulator instead of the fixed rate out, and remove the rubber ducting into the air filter on top of the exhaust and replace with some straight conduit. Gains about 10bhp and around 15-20lb midrange and makes it more peaky around 3500 rpm and pulls harder...Get it set up properly on a decent rolling road..

Next on the list is a decent exhaust and manifold system, but your looking around £650-700 for a full setup..

In London the only option would be Paul Sage who's in west norwood (crystal palace'ish) for general refurb/service etc but he's not really into tuning.
Mr G in colchester seems to be the man for tuning.

I'm down in East Sussex and can work on your engine. I have a carb guy who's fabuloso and about 500 yards from my shop. I've done cams in DeLorean engines and have a supply of fast road cams that've proven very effective, and currently have Tony's 360hp GTA inside doing a bit of re-wiring, and Alpine Rob's outside awiaiting its new engine. His set of triple webers are going spare now and the aforementioned cam guy really wants to build an engine based on them as he likes them quite a lot :-) (always moaned about EFI and PRVs in general till he saw them). My 3 litre turbo engie is on the stand getting built at the moment (if only Renault would move their collective buttocks and get me my pistons!)

Anyway, drop me a line if you're interested.

To get the best results without spending mega bucks, I suggest:

Cams (drop subframe, can be done in situe without removing heads), re-time up to even up banks, and run a touch less advance. Tappets re adjusted and oilways widened, ignition timing adjusted with advance curve moved.

Free-flow exhaust from Germany

Triple weber carbs, tuned to perfection :)

This will take you beyond 200hp

Or if you wanted to go for soopa doopa, as above but complete engine rebuild, lightened and balanced flywheel, crank and pistons, ported and polished heads to match the triple webers. This will breach the 250hp mark.
