Test and Tune day... RR session

Postby MFaulks » Mon Jun 28, 2010 10:39 pm

As the title says, I have been thinking about how as a club we can ensure we are getting the best from our cars in an im – proving fashion, than just proving. We have a wide cross section of members including competitive, professionals, and highly experienced, and great opportunity to get some real practical knowledge base going, but more importantly we need to start the process off.. I was thinking on the lines of handling clinic days, much like the old CCC magazine, engine tune, old Fast Car bolt’n’test etc.. Open to ideas, so time to get thinking and list!

So as a starter I’m proposing as a kick-off we set a date for a Rolling Road test and tune day - Engine time 8) . General format would be to do some baseline tests, do some tweaks off the rollers as other cars are tested as members wish, and then re-run etc. Obviously you can just prove the standard setup is all healthy and giving best performance equally as well. We have a great deal of professional expertise in the club, and so I’m sure we can organise some special deals, upgrade kits, Renix remaps etc and get to test and play – let’s see what we can do as a real knowledge base, have some fun and have a shot-out as well 8)

Anyway, having known Peter Burgess at Peter Burgess Tuning for years, I asked the question, and he is offering us the chance of a great club day rate, friendly easy atmosphere, and tea on tap.. advise washing the mug though  … He has just installed a new 1000hp digitised fully auto calibrating setup that we can do steady power, and acceleration run tests too. So I say let’s give it a go :) He’s situated in Alfreton just off the M1, pretty central and easy reach from London, and certainly no excuses for you Northern lads! DE55 7EZ

Places are going to be limited, it will be a week day, probably a Friday, and suggest end of July. So time enough for finishing off those project motors chaps.. me included!

Those up for a club session, join the list!

Yeah go on then, if I can get the day off. Be nice to see if it's anywhere near standard after 16 Years. Friday best for me as well.

I would be interested, but it depends on costs as the Atmo will currently spend our national deficit on fuel x2

I need to get the bottom end mixture sorted out the cold start needs looking at, but it would be good to get the fueling properly set up and the timing optimised.

what sort of money do you think you would be looking at just approx ...it sounds expensive?

Si, based on 6 peeps we are look at paying Peter 67-70 quid ish (each that was), and we have run of the facility for the day, not bad in my book 8) That obviously covers rental of the RR and Peter as operator. Anything else would obviously be additional. A straight on /off power run and plot and no more is going to cost you 50 quid these days, and if we structure the day right and go prepared, then we can get some before, spinning spanners time, and after runs in, normal dyno power runs (effectively incremental static load testing), and also some acceleration / inertia load runs in as well :D ... grab it while we can as prices are bound to go up!

If we get some A610s in as well, we can than have a 610 vs GTA shoot off as well for a bit of fun...
