Wiring in stereo

Postby bingham » Sat Feb 26, 2005 3:29 pm

How? I've taken the old double DIN size thing out but the wiring seems completly different from "normal" car stereo. What goes to what?
I've taken a photo and will post it when I work out how.

You can buy an autoleads adaptor that plugs into the large connector to give you two 'normal' euro connectors. Available from Halfords etc.

However DO NOT buy the Renault one that says Alpine GTA/A610 on the box. This is the wrong one and won't fit. The GTA is the reverse of all other Renaults.

You need to buy one for a Peugeot, Jeep or similar. You may need to reverse a couple of pins but it will work perfectly.

..ahh, but, I had a car in the other day, and it didnt have the traditional Renault type red connector and it was original, so it had to be rewired from scratch anyway. You may find a thick brown (-) thin red (+) and thick yellow (memory), the other lilac/white wires were the pairs for the speakers..

Hope you kept the receipt!

David, is that the early version with seperate connectors that you saw?

Forgot to say that even with the full block you still need to fit a spade for the -ve which is always a seperate chunky fly lead.

I presume the blue/brown leads coming out of the amplifier connectiong to the lilac leads are the speaker outputs but why are there only 7 of them? The 5 pin DIN connects to the tuner the fat black one must be the earth lead and that should leave another 2 to be the live and the constant live for the clock/memory.I'll start fiddling tomorrow but I'll probably just bigger it up as usual.

2 Not used
3 RightRear-

BIG PLUG

2 RightFront-
3 RightFront+
4 LeftRear-

thanks for that it was almost spot on. Anyway 4 hours later the CD is wired in and more importantly I've managed to stop the immobilizer which was wired through the stereo's earth lead from permenantly immobilizing me.

Is there a constant feed +ve (for the memory) or do I need to make one?

That reminds me, I received an excellent article regarding the stereo wiring. I'll post it in the tech. section now. http://www.renaultalpine.co.uk/stereo_wiring.htm

It's ok. I figured it out after a few minutes in the car. I noticed that even without the ignition being on, the clock still had power. So I ran the constant +ve from it (yellow wire if I remember correctly), and everything is sweet :D . I didn't realise how decent the standard speakers were! (Doesn't mean they won't be replaced sometime this week  )

(Just gotta remember whose garage I left the spare rear panels in that Ricard gave me from his hillclimb car! )
