A610 TPS ( THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR ) READING PLEASE

Hi All

I need a favour from three A610 owners; it’s a simple task if you have a multimeter. I would like three individual readings from your TPS ( throttle positioning sensor ). All you need to do is set it to 20v, position the earth probe anywhere on a good earth and then the positive probe on the middle wire ( keeping everything connected ), turn the ignition on and you should get a reading. I need to know what that reading is.

Also this will benefit all A610 owners in case your TPS goes up the creak! When they go wrong you loose all readings, and the Renault MR book only gives you a way to set it with the XR25. By the way if you think that by positioning the new one where the old one was its incorrect, as there could be some discrepancies and the car will run under power.

Symptoms of a bad TPS is; poor starting or not wanting to start at all, rough idling, backfiring when putting foot down or holding back on full power and cutting out.

Yes connected to TPS, Ignition on ( no need to have engine running ), Yes throttle at idle/rest position.

Remember the last time my tps was measured.!

I will be very gentle with mine as I don't want to disturb the (now very brittle) insulation.

Sorry guys,mistake from the first post, I need the reading from the red outer wire, at rest seems to range between 0.10v to 0. 50v. Bloody Renault never makes things like everybody else! As you can see I have used a wire extension to check readings, to avoid damaging anything.

Red 5.05v, brown 0.013v, blue 0.190v all colours refer to the loom not tps side.
Hope this helps, all measured ignition on, engine stopped, throttle shut.

John would not forgive me if I didn't say put some heat shielding on too if you can.

Thanks Lee you are a star!!, I need two more please, come on guys it's such a simple process and it will not hurt your cars.....

Non destructive, on mine the plug is the other way up to Phildinis' and my multimeter probes fitted down the cable entry holes on the plug, no dismantling necessary. No risk or damaging the TPS wiring even if brittle.
If we get this measured method agreed, we have a way of setting them for everyone in future...so its for all our benefit really.
Less than 10 minutes including removing and replacing the engine cover.

I wouldnt worry too much, its the same unit as on the Clio/R19 16v's. Just need to open it up and change the adjuster arm.

...and the Renault MR book only gives you a way to set it with the XR25.

You can set it with any Sykes Pickavant hand held diagnostic, like the one I have. Tells you the full percentage range of reading in live mode when you move the throttle, and any shorts, jumps etc..

Not the same I am afraid...... I have two here one from a 21 2wd Turbo and one from a 21 Turbo Quadra that look exactly the same as the A610 but all three of them have completely different resistance and voltage going through them. Also they can not be taken apart.

Can't believe I only managed to get Lee's to help, I was only trying to help other A610 owners in the future as this problem will come to the surface a lot more considering most 610 TPS are rotten!!

Have you considered this is because the 21 ones arent knackered/causing resistance hence the different values.

You can borrow my diagnostic unit if you like. How do you know that your 0.50v figure is even correct (I know this is what you are trying to do) but someone could come back with 2v as a reading....how do you know that is correct too? It could be 5v....
