Relays....

Hi can anyone point me in the direction of information on which relays are which.

Looked I behind the fuse box last night to try and fix the only one flash indicator issue that occurred since I had the dash off for re coating and changing about 1 million bulbs! It seems that now I've added a hi speed blower setting problem, it works on low and mid.

Also is this just an after market alarm in my hand?

One more question, the large relay that looks like the indicator one seemed warm to the touch is this right?

touch the relay in the morning and see if it has cooled down......or maybe disconnect the battery too.
See what markings there are on the alarm....it could have a date on it.
I suspect it is an aftermarket device.

The heater speed is controlled via a resistor inside the intake ducting. Looks like little springs. (Maybe different if you have A/C) The selector knob just switches in different value resistors, to control the speed. I am guessing that when on FULL, it would by-pass these, so check the wires around the resistor pack.
Again it depends upon where you have been poking about, before the issue. Check for a broken wire on the rear of the selector knob as well. If you have been working in that area.
Thats the thing with electrics of this age, you poke about, and all kinds of things mess with you. I had a similar issue when I was messing with my radio. The central door locks just stopped! Messed about with the radio again, and they are now working..
Maybe just a dirty connection??? but I can live with it for now.
Keep us updated..

I only have wiring diagrams for the A610, but I am guessing they must share some parts.
Here is the A610 fuse box relay diagram. May give you a better guess than poking about in the dark...

312 = Consumption shut off relay
117 = Lights on buzzer
232 = Starter Relay
137 = Flasher unit
229 = Horn relay
292 = Lighting rheostat relay
234 = Electric Fan Relay

Its a start.. but hopefully "Johnc" will be along with a GTA version..

Following on from Vince's invitation to post the relay positions for the GTA Turbo ..... here it is for future reference ....... but it does not help you as those relays have been removed from their original positions.

Now that the relays are uninstalled from where they were, the easiest way to find out which one is the Flasher is to slip off the relay cover, and the flasher one will have two relays in it ....... it looks to me that the other one is the interior light timer which should only have one relay.
I would start with the one that is getting warm as if it gets warm with the ign on and stalk is switched to one side or the other and the indicator lamps are on contentiously, then the case will start getting warm.
Also is this just an after market alarm in my hand?

If you Google "Selmer Alarm", you will see that they make car alarms ;)

Looking at your picture, it seems that on one of the large timer relays, the original connector has been removed in favour of individual female spade crimp connectors ....... while you can get to it easily, I would draw a pic on a sticky label of the base of the relay showing which colour wires go to which pins and stick the label on to the relay for future reference.

Thank you for the responses I will try all suggestions, clean everything with switch cleaner and let you know.

Yes, I don't know why the indicator relay has lost its plug a label sounds like a good idea!

I guess the reason for the flasher relay plugs is the alarm is plumbed in to interact with the flashers..

Seems like the culprit... I have only one flash each time the stick is selected right or left.

The renault part is 6001018629 if that helps...
I tried to get one a while back.
Renault, despite appearing to have them on their system ...for about £100, could not supply..but do try...

Can't remember if I asked Simon Auto.

.In the end Mr Crowston supplied a good used one. (Try BigMVS too)
You can pop the cover off and clean up the relay contacts...That has helped some....
(There is a post "blinking indicators" which discussed this).
Try cleaning your terminal contacts as well..Might help..Also given the spade connectors...Assume all is connected correctly...Do the hazards work ?

At some point we may need to get creative with these units.all the internal parts are standard including the chip...Finding the 2 relays to fit the circuit board would be the remaining challenge..

Hi Dave,

The unit used to work, so I am assuming the connections are as they should be even if they have 'had some work done' in the past!

Simon don't seem to have any on line so maybe cleaning next, I've been through the contacts to the spade connections

I've dealt with that company a number of times and I'd recommend them. Very efficient and very helpful, unlike most Renault dealers! The only thing that I would point out (through personal experience) is that, although their website may accept a part number and give you a price for it, that doesn't automatically mean that that particular part is still available. If I were you, I would contact them before you placed an order, just to make sure that they can still obtain it. They suggested to me that I should do that and they've always been happy to check.

The company above do list alpine parts that they can't supply... But in fairness they were apologetic and refund quickly..So i echo the comment above to call first...
..I'd also try Renault direct...but am a bit doubtful...

Is it the big white relay? From memory they are used in period BMW's too try a google search.
