Alpine GTA Turbo v6 Speedo not working

Postby smetsra » Fri Oct 28, 2016 3:19 pm

Hello All,

Recently i had to replace the alternator on my car.

I had opened a topic on this with subject: "Unmounting alternator on GTA V6 Turbo 1989"

The issue prior alternator replacement being a surcharge of +18V onto the battery, is now closed.

The engine does start, runs idle, I can drive but what I notice now is:

The speedo does not work. No speed indication.

On the fuel consumption display only indication I have is, indication for the fuel left in the tank.

Other values like average speed / average consumption remain with indication ----

Also I have feeling that the engine is not cooling properly.

I hope i did not screw the ECU.

Any advice from team appreciated.

Regards
Raf

The easiest and first thing to check is the connector from the speedo pickup (on gearbox) to the car. The connector is next to the main (red) positive connector and is susceptible to getting wet etc. Disconnect that and make sure that you're getting a good, clean connection.

Hello All,

Eventually issue solved.

Cleaned the battery negative terminal path from battery to chassis connection and now behaving ok.

So advice for others is first check battery connectivity being OK.

My current remaining topic is checking the Oil Level indicator behavior on the dashboard.

Although indication on the Oil dip stick is OK, the reading on the dashboard remains indicated as low.

Wonder I need to look at the Oil level sensor. Not sure where exactly it is located.

Thank U in advance for advice,

Regards
Raf

The oil level gauge only moves on initial start .It should move to indicate then back to zero .Its useless really.

Thank U for reply.
I understand this guage is not vital but I like all indicators to work as expected.
Not yet sure where to locate the sensor.
