A610 air con compressor

Hi

Anyone know the cost of a new one please
I believe jl engineering have them.

There seems to be a fault with air con unit in that it one minutes blows cold then hot then cold etc etc.
from google a possible fault is the a/c relay on its way out so can some one tell me where it is on the a 610.If it is that then a cheap repair if not at least eliminated

Hi it is an old type basic system get an independent A/C man to look at it as it could be as you say a cheep part that has broken or low on gas. The pump is simple and can be stripped down and checked but parts are limited.

The pump is shared with a USA Honda, so not so common over here, that said Sanden pumps have limited variations, so you may well be able to find something similar to fit, certainly will with some miner pipe changes. The pump is a Sanden TRF 090 or sd709.
I'm with Custard though, make sure the sensors are working properly before worrying about the pump.
If it's running 134 gas, the condenser is a bit small and you get too high a pressure on the HP side which may result in the cutting out.
On my GTA the plan is to fit a modern condenser to lower the pressures and improve the cooling capacity. As it cannot cannot be seen without dismantling the car, I think this is an acceptable modification. Modern condensers are lighter too.

A610 Air Con.

Hi Lee,
I'm having a few issues with the air con on my A610 at present. The compressor was leaking and I've had this refurbished so that fine but the system is still losing gas, a sixty mile run with the air con on will see the gas depleted.
I had a local air con specialist out yesterday and it 'appears' that the condenser may be leaking as there's a couple of small patches of what looks like air con oil on the condenser.
You mentioned fitting a more modern condenser to your GTA so do you know a company that supplies these as I may have to bite the bullet and get it replaced .
As my cars now 25 years old I may well get the radiator re-cored as well as I'll bet the lower part is sludged up so if anyone knows a company does this that I could take my radiator to or post to then any information would be welcome.

For the GTA I'm going to use a mini condenser, happens to be the same size, but there are suppliers of generic condensers out there. John Viola has posted up on here before about condenser specs for GTA. He's using a modern one and it has also got the advantage of a dramatic improvement in cooling capacity too, as the modern stuff is much more efficient.
He used a Condenser Webasto/Diavia 62022299ORB.
I'm not 100% sure if the GTA and 610 rads are the same overall dimensions, but if someone can confirm that, the condenser that John uses should work for the 610 too.
One caution, you'll possibly have to have some new pipes made to adjust for any differences in the locations or fittings for the new condenser, so this isn't a 5 minute job.
One other thought, my commuting car has a very ropey condenser and lost the gas over a few months. I had some leak stop for ac at home and put that it before the regas. Touch wood, we are now months later and the ac is still fine on that car.
If you take the car to an ac specialist, rather than a normal garage, it might be worth a go putting some of the leak stopper in and then a regas. Not a permanent fix, but gives time to research and engineer the replacement.
Classic car mags now seem to have ac specialists advertising in them, so they can help.

Be careful putting leek stopper in in the long term can become a problem. When my A/C man first came round it was the first thing he asked, hope you haven't put any stopper in.

Thanks for all the advice.
It was a specialist mobile car air con guy that I got to come and check out my A610. He re-gassed it and put in a dose of the fluorescent dye in and he's coming back in a week or so to check it over using a special light to see if there are any leaks in the condenser or elsewhere.
My car was converted to 134a many years ago and until I had this problem the air con worked really well.

Also I've found a radiator repair/rebuild place about 20 miles from where I live and they also have the facility to re core air con condensers...dependent upon design and condition etc so if I get to that stage I'll have the delight of the front bumper and under tray removal to look forward to....!

Thats interesting news Barry, keep us up to date with progress.
The air con on the 610 is designed for r13 which isn't available.
R134 conversions deal with the connectors and the seals leaking, but don't deal with the reduced thermal capacity of the gas.
When I had my last 610 regassed with isceon34, (and st 24?before) which is supposed to be closer to the original gas spec, but costs a packet, the guy that did it said that the high side pressures were too high and this was caused by insufficient cooling capacity in the condenser.
The change that John has made cures that, it would be worth asking your recording guys if an bigger capacity core can be put into the condenser. Modern cores have much greater surface area than the originals, which is why they are more efficient at cooling.
I'll see if I can get some pictures for comparison. I have a GTA original condenser somewhere(ruined...so if your guys make a good job, they could get another client....)

Pretty sure Dave "jagcat" has used and recommended Ian @ Subzero previously. (I got the lead from Dave on here too)

Ian has a chap who supplies/sources his bits from Bristol way I believe. That's where my GTA compressor came from at least..
