LACK OF NEW PHOTOS

Postby stephendell » Sat Aug 20, 2005 11:28 pm

While I'm still in ranting mode...

If anyone has any leverage with or knows anyone high up at Telivo (my hosting providers) please, please could you put in a good word.

If not please could you sign a petition or harrass them daily over their refusal to increase my web space without deleting (yes deleting) the whole site first and then insisting I re-publish it in its entirity :?

I have phoned them many times and they just keep telling me there is no way round this which I cannot believe. I'd have thought dragging a folder or two across at their end would suffice. I have neither the time nor the inclination to republish the site in its entirity because of someone elses laziness.

I'm happy to pay the increased fees for the increased space but object to any additional administrative charges when they won't even help!

Another example of a previously excellent small business growing too fast too soon and forgetting all about customer service.

Stephen, Why not set up a 2nd site just for photos, and just post links from the main site to the second one, just a thought as I'm no web author.

Maybe not a bad idea. Is it possible you could make use of free web hosting sites like http://www.photobucket.com/

I think you're allowed to use direct links, so the pictures can be diplayed in other web sites.

If they refuse to budge then they don't deserve your custom. You'll have to reload anyway so take your business elsewere and let them know the reason  It's just unprofitible work for them, no reason to expect any provider loyalty so .................

Lots of people have suggested hosting the large files or downloads elsewhere but it's really hard to preserve the integrity of a large site if you do this.

Lee probably has the best suggestion. i.e. vote with my feet.

If the best they can offer is reload then reload elsewhere...

Hosting ideas

Postby covert » Mon Aug 22, 2005 9:27 am

Hosting is always a changing landscape, and there are plenty of places, here are a few ideas..... maybe of some use, what are your requirements, size etc..... maybe people here have some good ideas.... But these are the ones I know about.

Photos - lot's of people use this.....

Hosting plans I have seen

The cheapest place I've seen on the internet so far.
http://www.only2dollars.com/

Larger but still cheap....
http://www.5dollarhosting.com/

Or this place where you can have 5GB and 20URL's for us$14

Or go the free large holding space .... 3GB of storage for free.... US site.

Stephen, cost may not be the biggest issue.
I'm sure Renault would prefer for us to be associated with Quality.
As RAOC is now an official Renault club, perhaps the club can apply to Alpine or Renault for the costs to be covered by them.

Hi Simon, it's not a cost issue, they just won't do it and it makes no sense!

Stephen,
I use Hosting Uk and they have been very helpful and cost effective. It may not help with what you have already but it is a future option. I paid £50 pa for a very comprehensive commercial package. Have a look at hostinguk.com. Testimonials include "I still can't get over how responsive you are to my emails - it's such a contrast to my previous host". I agree, I used Virgin and an e-mail would get an idiot reply after 7 days if you were lucky, hosting uk would take less than an hour. If you get bad service, vote with your feet. Cheers Geoff 8)
