Alpine A110 v Cayman 718T Test.

Postby timhum » Fri Sep 20, 2019 7:52 am

In the October edition of 911 & Porsche World there's a comparison test between the A110 and 718T. Overall a very good comparison but no surprise that in a Porsche magazine the Cayman wins. There is no real criticism of the Alpine in any area, the summary being;

The Alpine gives the Cayman a serious run for its money and for some it will be the better car. The Cayman has key advantages, a more charismatic engine, an optional manual gearbox and 911 grade hardware at a knockdown price.

In the comparison chart the Alpine is quicker to 60mph than the Cayman by 0.8 seconds, is 327kg lighter, costs £4,351.00 less and is more economical.

In my view an article well worth a read.

A more charismatic engine on paper perhaps - anything but in reality. That said, an early 718 owner who had a current car as a courtesy car said the new car was quieter and less agricultural (his words not mine) than his. So perhaps the advantage that most would argue the Alpine had may have diminished. I haven't tried a late 718 myself, only an early one - and I thought the engine horrid.
