It's supposed to help stop fraudulent 'second chance' emails (amongst other things), but it also hides a seller having a second account and bidding you up.
It does take some of the fun away.

All it does is prevent people offering similar items to losing bidders outside ebay and inadvertently disguises shill bidders.

Just ebay looking after themselves again of course and nothing to do with protecting users. You could easily end up bidding against a friend.

I was discussing this with Tony:

He could set up a new user ID Tonyshillbidderonmyowncar happily bid his car up on another PC with a different connection/IP address and all anyone would see is Bidder X.

Great idea ebay :roll:
