Get a turbo diesel

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Apr 05, 2011 4:27 pm

Get a big TD (not Turd) great for towing, great on fuel, and some of them go well. As a 21 owner looks are obviously not a consideration (joking Simon ;0)) how about a 2001 Citroen C5 TDI a bag of sand buys a tidy 100k er and they are huge. 406 estates are pretty good, the one I had was faultless in a year of ownership. I'd stay away from the E34 5 series, they always need loads sorting out - thought of Japanese - Galant V6 very cheap as are 3.0 Camry's - you know they'll never go wrong
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

Second big up for the 406 I've had so that may be in the list ....21 is still up for grabs .I'm not letting it go for less than £1500 though ..I'd rather keep it ,watch it appreciate and find the JIL funds elsewhere
Have just read the modded chip from it and have a std phase 3 setup to go in so I can shift the upgraded stuff and take her back to totally std if that helps a sale

Wouldn't touch a C5, go with a 110hp Xantia HDi all day - mine's still refusing to die at 12 years, 230,000 and counting. Never goes wrong except when I'm a prat.

Self levelling suspension, ideal for towing, I've hauled cars from as far afield as Germany. Superb comfort, superb economy, power and so on and so forth...

Try and find an Exclusive, or failing that an SX. Don't touch a 90hp version with a bargepole.

Edit: Here ya go, barely 1/3rd of the mileage of mine but the same age. Loads of life left in this old girl!
