I'm not sure this is going to do the job Jon, the A610 is rated at 258ft-lb of torque, even if we allow 30% which is reasonable this gives a 330ft-lb as safe, but 366 is clearly going to push this to the limit. I don't think any manufacturer would over spec by 40 - 50%... So I think you need to be considering something a little more serious.

I take your point.

Anyone got any suggestions or contacts I might get hold of for some heavy duty clutch action?

I should add that its fine for now just for those full on power runs its going to need to be uprated :lol: :lol:

Uprated road going clutch

You might want to look at the AP Racing uprated RS Cosworth CP2000-9 clutch kit which is for road use and uses an organic driven plate. It is rated at 351 ft/lbs (476Nm) so will safely handle your engines peak torque. Max rotational speed is 9000rpm.

For the flywheel I'd suggest TTV Racing, they do very nice lightweight billet units to your specification, as the above unit is 240mm http://www.ttvracing.com/

Certainly worth a go as you say, will need them to do it on a Renault spline or that will require a change in the input shaft as well. 351 ft-lb, is a tad lower than the current peak at 366 ft-lb, and possibly could go up from there with tweaks.

The easy options I could think of included:

Helix used to offer a paddle plate but can't see that now, and use the 610 pressure plate.

The other option was Ferry Development in France used to supply a paddle clutch replacement for competition, I should have the datasheet for it printed somewhere. So this would be a drop in replacement utilising the OE flywheel. However, their old website ferrydev.com doesn't appear to be live? I believe they are still going as a business, anyone have their current contact details?

Current solution Jon has implemented is turn the boost down!

Have a look down the bottom of this. AP racing again but also options to upgrade the input shaft / splines if you wanted to go that far.

I assume Kevin at GTO is still involved in these?

AP can supply the sprung centre type organic driven plate with the correct UN1 spline as part number CP2346-42 (steel backed) or CP2346-58 (non backed). The AP unit would certainly take you to 400ft/lbs+ which is a mere 10% above the units rating.
If you are happy to compromise road manners/driveability I saw that there is a paddle clutch for the 21turbo rated at 390 ft/lbs from these people.........

For similar torque figures I went for a Sachs Racing 200mm unsprung organic clutch with TTV billett flywheel, rated at 324ft/lb which is ok on the road, nicer than a paddle but not as smooth as a sprung plate, however this is for a very light car (circe 700kgs). It has survived a fair few full throttle starts with no complaints. This clutch can however be upgraded to a twin plate unsprung organic to support 500ft/lbs. details...

Thanks for the info and great input, much appreciated. Certainly sounds like you have an interesting bit of kit there.

I have machined the turbo PRV OE flywheels to take the AP twin plate clutch baskets quite effectively, expensive for what Jon wants to do. I think the 21 solution you gave the link looks like the way to go probably overall, especially as a quick drop and swap out will be high on the decision list...

Think you will have to get the flywheel modded to accept the 21 clutch .Mount screws are diff position I think .Simon T will know the differences .
I still have the AP racing clutch form JIL .It needs a bit of looking at re the release bearing height etc but may be a cheap ( relative ) option .

Thanks so much for your suggestions and help. Much appreciated.

Could you tell me the exact specs of the original Gta/A610 clutch.

Size, clamp, splines etc I'm in contact with a number of companies who have asked- so anything you think they might need. Perhaps this might lead to a good solution for all in the end.

John had a custom one made for Dave Miles to handle plenty of torque so he should be able to sort you out also.

I have a used GTA clutch from Sachs/Valeo, plus an original 1986 one on the shelf.
What measurements do you wish?

I did have the second hand one from my 610, but the teeth on the pressure plate had some wear on them....... I can probably still get it back if you were interested..............
