Its a reach but does anyone know the A310 spring rates??

Postby dallarax19 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 11:42 pm

John or anyone that can help, the information would be greatly appreciated. I need the rates or measurements off of a set of stock springs for a 4 lug A310:

1) Coil inner diameter or outer diameter
2) Wire diameter
3) Number of full free coils (coils after the first flat ground coil)
4) Height of the spring (flat to flat)

I am working on the next phase of my shock set up.

THANKS!!

Can't help I'm afraid Brian.
As you've probably found and as I mentioned in your 'Need alignment help' thread the MDR, at least my copy, only gives flexibility rates for the springs for the Phase 2 car. This is an odd omission when it gives the full dimensional data for the Phase 1 springs. Possibly because the MDR I have and the one found on the internet doesn't contain all the IS sections listed in the index.
Needs someone with springs off the car to take some measurements.

Hey Gents,

Thanks for the response. I appreciate your patience in that I keep asking the same questions but occasionally a rejog of the memory sometimes helps and I get lucky. I am making traction on my issue and the SPAX guys are helping. I will keep you posted.

Are you talking 4 stud 4 cyl or 4 stud V6? I have a set of 4 cylinder springs to hand and have just ordered dampers from Spax.

Spax guys are already aware of an issue with the 3 stud V6 and I have given them those details before.

If one of the above maybe give me a call to discuss 07956495773. Spax are local to my workshop.

4 stud V6 springs I don't have the info.

What's the nature of the 3 stud V6 issue Stephen?
Brian's car is a Phase 2, 4 stud, V6 by the way.

On the adjustable platform dampers set at the very bottom the platform position is equivalent to the fixed OEM item and the ride height is acceptable with standard springs but there is no room for further adjustment. Similar problem to GTA. New shorter springs are required.

On the fixed platform version the position of the welded spring seat was higher than the above and therefore makes the car sit unacceptably high, i.e. higher than standard with the standard springs.

This issue may have now been fixed. I usually ask SPAX change the part number when making any changes. Then if Simon Auto or anyone else makes or tries to make any further changes the revised part is unaffected.

Thanks for the clarification. Mine is on standard, aftermarket, fixed platform dampers and the standard springs. Ride height is close to correct or slightly lower than specification.

Hey All,

Sorry I did not respond earlier, I was in Germany last week. OK the issue is yes the kit I bought is NG to lower the car. I bought the Simon Spax/Eibach system and found the car to be 30mm high. As it turns out there is a stock Spax pn G886 and Simon pn G1611EA for the the fronts and the G1611EA shock body happens to be 30mm longer. I don't know all the reasons why but in the end the Spax guys have offered to make a set of tuned shocks to my spec and that is what I am after. At the moment I am stuck on what the wheel frequency should be because I get information that is all over the map. I want street/tourning and can't decide on the frequency (1.1Hz-1.8Hz) When I get over that hurdle I can get shocks appropriately sized and dampered to lower the car 12mm from stock. I will keep you posted.

Hey John I appreciate you "have my back" and answered the earlier post and provided Stephen what he needed concerning my car. I thought that was pretty cool. :)

Hi Brian, is it Tony you have been speaking to regarding the mods?

I've got some 884 & 885 in production at the moment and they may need similar mods.

OK, thanks for the thanks.

Another interesting study you're doing by the look of it. I'd have no idea what wheel frequency to aim for, best of luck with the analysis.
You did ask for any comments. Extremely pedantic of me but in the rear wheel table should the heading of the light green column read 'Ksr' and not 'Ksf'? :)

Hey Stephen yes I am working with Tony and he has been very helpful. HE responds very quickly and has been quite patient with my investigation and questions. I am not sure if I am trying to bring an atomic bomb to a knife fight but it makes me feel better at least thinking it through with the analysis. I would like to know more about your project and how it turns out.

Thanks John, I will fix the master file this evening. Good feedback.

Brian
