Lee, would be worth putting in 30 deg top cut and a 60 deg throat cut into those seats, dropping a good 5-10hp right there, free hp init :wink: Standard 3 angle, no secret angles there :-) ... you never know who's reading haha++ but as the man at the back says, there are no secrets :arrow:

Need a man that can? 8) .. will bring zee stuff...

OK MoFo ..bring the gear up and get grinding 8) I'll un-build the heads :roll:

Block should be ready today ..should have been last week but they are always a busy so no great suprise it wasn't done .
Frame and running gear blasted and painted ( no Pink I'm afraid Rob )
Shotblast dude has just set up a little blast room so can now do a lot more small stuff including wheels .

Back on the subject of pistons and slap ,I had a word with the engine dudes ,dropped the liners off for a hone .
The liners are showing a lot of wear from slap and some pitting .I can only get them dressed and see what we get but ...they can manufacture new liners .Cost will be around £120 a pot .Bead blast the pistons ,re-ring and Fanny's yer Aunt .
Worth thinking about as the main problem is with the liner wear and not the piston itself which we are pretty much stuck with unless you want to start spending silly money .

Anyone want to chip in for some R&D on that basis ? Of course this can apply to the GTA as well ..Toying with upping the bore on the JIL lump so it's liners are coming out for a rebore or possibly new to suit :shock:

Lee, as to JIL 2... I had 12 made to measure spun cast liners for a 93mm bore some time back... so JIL 2nd gen is fine bro... 8)

Reboring the current liners for JIL 1 is for a slightly different reason.

I will have to look up what I paid, but I had them made 3 years ago... mistake I made is not leaving the bore to cover the 91 - 93mm range doh moment that...

I’ve got 4 good 2nds liners for Rob, the other two need to select from 3 other 2nds I have and anything from the original set, well they’re an option if you want to.

Well Lee that is interesting-I'd have expected the alloy parts to wear more than the steel, but of course its Renault steel..
Just a thought, do the liners need to be put in on one orientation or can they be rotated to move the wear wound to reduce the slap (presumably the wear only exists in the line of thrust from the skirt)?
I also guess that liners from other low mileage 3 litre blocks from other z7x would also fit? (if they are the right grade)
Either way, depending on how much the development costs would be, I'd be happy to contribute.

Sorry I have obviously missed some of the thread and no time to read it all Am I to assume that the liners are no longer available standard from Ruin-U?

Unfortunately just interested in knowing at the moment and not in a position to put my money where my mouth is, whish I could, but I will definately be looking not too far down the line to build something reliable, but significantly more potent for "Christine" Shhhhh she's probably listening :shock: Shes definately going to need more power looking at the class I am running in on Saturday at Abingdon as I dont thik my bottom end grunt is going to outway the cars pulling 90 - 170(double) the BHP I am:lol: :lol: :lol:

I gonna thash Christine as hard as I dare tho' :wink:

Nothing to do with Renault steel... the piston skirt shouldn't wear excessively as it has boundary lubrication from the oil splash off the crank, otherwise it would seize solid in no time - it's running on an oil film. The rings cause the wear, as the they will break through the marginal oil film on the power stroke as the combustion gasses force them out onto the bore, they go metal-to-metal (much of this has to do why the type of oil you use as well btw), and why most of the wear appears at the top of the bore...

Ferraris Piston Services or what ever they are called FPS used to do them in steel, with steel liner seals for peanuts... So I would look there first. I wanted cast and a particular grade for my own purposes and to match the ring package, and ring material I intended to run at that time. But for boggo cooking motor stuff Ferraris stuff will be great, and probably 300-400 quid for the set at the most likely, worth checking.
