GTA Heated rear window

Postby paulrob100 » Tue May 30, 2017 3:13 pm

I have 2 problems with the heated rear window on my GTA. The first of which is self inflicted.

When I bought the car the window struts were very weak & would not support the glass. I found a company in Derby who supplied them at a reasonable price, so bought 2. They work fine, except they are aluminium & so do not conduct the electric necessary to make the circuit for the heating element.

Secondly. One of the small eclectic terminal tabs that is bonded onto the glass, has come off. Obviously the bonding agent must have been able to conduct electricity. Any ideas how to re-attach this ?

I will no doubt have to replace the struts, but there's no point if I cant fix the terminal :thinking

I repaired my rear screen with new tabs/conductive epoxy supplied (rather expensively) by an outfit called Frostfighters. I glued and clamped the new tabs into position and made up new wiring loops to the rear gas struts and 'hey presto' the heating element now works fine.

Thanks Murf and Paulrob100...that will inspire me to try. Would be nice to have working rear windows, the wiring to the bottom of the struts is OK, but the rest isnt...
