H6 GTA wipers and digital instruments not working.

Postby Ggeo1uk » Tue Oct 01, 2024 5:11 pm

My most reliable classic has suddenly developed a few faults, fuel gauge and trip blank but Speedo and rev counter ok, and now the windscreen wipers have stopped working.
I’ve checked fuses, all ok. Do I need to get into the dash, can it be relays I don’t know.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
George

I would start by checking the earths first, they are more accessible too, under the carpet.
It's a bit too much of a coincidence to get multiple things go wrong at once.
Happy hunting.

Also, try shining a torch into the LCD display at various angles. If it is just the bulbs that have failed you'll be able to see the read outs with the torch.
If all of the bulbs have failed it suggests a fault with the instrument backlight supply.

As for the wipers, check the wiper motor power supply plug under the scuttle in the front boot and see if there is electricity getting to the supply plug. Most likely the spindles have seized up where they pop up through - in which case loads of WD40 and fiddling required.
