I have 68k on the clock but with the speedo stopping every now and then it could be more. Should I be thinking of changing timeing chains, cam belts or similar in the near future

Don't think you should worry to much about it .The chains are a fairly solid
piece of kit and when I had my headgasket done at about
100k they were in fine shape.I had the tensioners changed as they showed slight signs of wear ,but that was it .

Trust me, your engine was probably the quiestest GTA lump Ive ever heard...

But is that the quiet before the storm

Just worry about the bits that are known to break, not the ones that dont. ! ! !
Now if it had a cam belt, that would be a different thing. I had one go on a V6 at 2,000 miles under its replacement mileage. Very nasty mashed valves and pistons so I now change them at about half recommended distance.
