The interior is Italian kid leather and provides supremely comfortable accommodation for four adults.

So that’s how the Italians get around inheritance tax

It's a Vauxhall with a posh frock.

Try an scimitar (a 3liter capri in a posh plastic frock)
or a Bond (a triumph herald in a posh frock)
etc etc

The Scimitar was not a Capri in a posh frock....it was far more agricultural than that :D They had a seperate chassis that weighed about a ton for starters!

Lots of good that are only posh frocks

Postby Tony Smith » Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:29 am

The Capri was a Cortina in a party dress
The Calibra a Cavalier
Scirocco, Corrado, Audi TT are all Golfs underneath
The Manta a Mk1 Cavalier
Firenza - Viva
Fuego - 18
15 and 17 - Er 16?

Platform sharing is great for the manufacturers as it means they halve the design costs. New prettier body re-rate the suspension tweek the engine, sporty interior and away you go new coupe with £3000 price premium
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

Capri on same platform

Postby Tony Smith » Thu Dec 29, 2005 9:58 am

Remember there are several generations of each. Both shared same wheelbase, chassis, even wheels were the same on early versions (Mk2 Cortina 1600 E/Mk1 Capri) Leaf sprung rear axles, macpherson struts at the front on both cars, on the later models things were a little different but thats more because Ford declined to develop the Capri as much as the bigger selling Cortina.

The A106 used a 4CV (750) parts, but as it was a monocoque and the A106 was fibreglass with a backbone chassis (I think...) they couldn't have used the platform.

I don't think they've ever used a citroen platform....

yup, Renault 4CV was the base of 1st Alpine A106.
AFAIK the Alpine is not at all connected with the Citroen 2CV.
