peter are you slagging your own car off :?:   I hope your not having a go at a race bred and reliable beast as a spider? as it would beat your old rotbox on the circuit in standard non bling form any day of the week and last more than one lap :!:

It would only beat a standard GTA round a twisty course because its a much younger design on the suspension and chassis front...its called progress..as for the performance in a straight line its not good...having a wheezy old 4 cylinder 150bhp lump hauling its overweight chassis round means its slower than most modern hot hatches! Its the reason why Renault couldnt sell em.....too much weight not enough power.....get a Caterham!!! They do everything better except look modern. The spider is pretty though...love those lines! Whats the race bred thing about????? They only ever raced against each other!!!!! I think you mean concept car made good.....Renault were brave and lost money on every one they made. Before you say it, I know the GTA isnt anywhere close to perfect.....but its got an Alpine badge, a V6 engine, a turbo, sounds awesome (in a league above any 4 cylinder cars for sure), looks great and has a roof... which suits my aims nicely!! :D If the spider had a decent engine I'd forget fat fighters and put it on my list to buy. As for the one lap thing.....actually no... I wont comment on its reliability.....I might jinx it! :D Spiders are gorgeous and as road cars or fun cars are fast, but there isnt really a motorsport class where they are likely to be a serious bit of kit because Caterham and Westfield and Sylva and Dax etc....exist and do the job more quickly.

Spiders were primarily designed as a track car then adapted for road use in 1996 after the spider race series had been running for a year. first 400 with a wind deflector and then to make it a little more normal they added a windscreen, if they'd have given it more power initially it would have sold like hotcakes but the elise was launched just before and was a little more agile but ran out of puff at 100 mph whereas a spider would hit 135 with ease.

people still race them today and win buddy. I know of a guy who's raced one in Endurance racing also.....GTA would break down after a couple of laps no :?:

Bring on the racer Baby....... a totally different beast and at 700 Kg overweight and 200 horses come on then get yaself some slicks and we'll still woop ya ass

the Europa cup that we wiped the floor with at croix in september will probably be at circuit de bresse.... 28th may I'll let you know

Already booked on 28th May for Kames! As Ive pointed out the 2 cars are different classes.....all Ive said is straight line standard GTA vs standard spider the spider looses......which is strange for a purpose built low volume race car as you describe!!!
Line you car up against something similar like a 2 litre Caterham and you wont even see it after a couple of seconds!
The Spider got trounced by the Elise in every department except top speed and that was down to the fact the spider came with no windscreen/roof......another faut pas Renault made then tried to fix later by adding a screen.
I love the Spider, they look gorgeous and they are rapid but the opposition is so much better.
Race version or no race version an R500 (or 400) Caterham is gonna murder your car.

Granted R400 or 500 yes as it has big power......but don't forget they suck a PRV in the back of a Spider and called it a Helem they also stuck a ferrari V8 in the back of one also and then try a cateram :?: against it.

that's what ya call tuning

When new, the GTA was over a second quicker to 60 and had nearly a 20mph advantage in top speed.....but your GTA will have been at least 8 years older than the spider.

yeah for a road version with a clio h pattern box.....

I'm talking now today, 200 horse 6 speed sequential close ratio racing box.....and it's geared probably for a higher top end than your GTA  best you start bolting on more bling and boosty bits, you want my ART shopping voucher :?: I'll donate it for free
bring it on

I was talking about standard vs standard in answer to Gt5!!! I still doubt your top speed will exceed mine though.....the standard car did 150mph and mine weighs considerably less, is lowered has larger wheels and Ive got a lot more BHP.
As Ive pointed out the GTA and spider are different cars in different classes.....as you'll find out if you start racing instead of playing! The Spider failed in a big way because its a badly compromised car....too heavy and according to the reviews has no feel. Jeremy Clarkson described it as a great posers car....he said it was South of France while the Elise was mountain road. It sounds like you have spent a small fortune on making your Spider go faster.......I have spent only a couple of thousand.....your budget and my car......I suspect the GTA would win.

While OFF the Queens highway last year, I saw 160mph and onto the red line for the rev counter (6100) while in top gear in my std car last year.

Laden with a spare wheel, some tools, fuelled up and head on to the wind, because jag XJR-wot-ever could no longer get away, and he could not slipstream me either. Peter with about 130Kgs less than me and your mods, yours will probably bounce the limiter at 6300, unless you have removed it
