Its called pushing the boundaries...but you might get away with it :D . You would be more likely to if you turned up with a louvred coloured version. The problem with perspex is that as soon as scrutineers see it they know its not what the car came with....I cant think of a single car that ever came with perspex anywhere other than light covers...and nor can they!
The championship youre looking at is probably a national championship or a BARC centre championship (they always attract serious money too!)

As I said I'm not bothered about the class I'd be in as long as I can still run .A lot of the champs look like if you turn up often enough you'll be in the top three anyway

Don't know about glamorous but exclusive yes :!:
What I mean is ,there were only 2 competitive entries in the 3C class of the champ I'm Iooking at so if I turn up I'll get third, they only award 1st anyway with that level of interest

Lee, Andy has 2 Renault race cars and where did he come in last years Renault track championships?
It is not really about position and how many throphies you win, it's more about the experience and the fun of it. This is grass roots, entry level motorsport, one does not realistically expect to win anyway, most are in the same boat with non-ideal cars and a limited budget.
I'm sure Andy had fun in his race cars last year even if he did not win. There are other levels of the sport that struggle with entries, which is why even the big boys have to share the track with "other" classes.
You don't even have to join a championship if you don't wish too, so long as you belong to a club or organisation on the invitee list, eg BARC.
At the end of the day, just give it a try for a few events and see how much you enjoy it. If you don't, then try another class/formula/sport.
1986 : '86 GTA v6 BW-EFR turbo, with Adaptronic ECU
Firsts at
2007 : Gurston Down & RAOC Champion
2008 : Rushmoor & Eelmoor & ACSMC Hillclimb class Champion
2009 : Longcross & Eelmoor
2010 : Crystal Palace & Eelmoor
2016 : Rushmoor & 5th O/A
