There are a few replicas out there of varying quality.

The one below was one of the nicer ones if IIRC

The metallic blue car is the more standard version, called Monte Carlo 220.

The light blue car is a Group 4 replica.

AFAIK they both had Renault 2 litre (12 valve?) engines in them, but could be built to order with many engine and gearbox configurations.

I don't know if any others (of this particular version) were built other than these two.

One of the problems was when the replica/kits were launched (mid 80's - early 90's) the real thing was relatively cheap so it made the kits prohibitively expensive, now the genuine article is more expensive it would be a much better proposition.

Leboncoin were selling tubs on promotion recently for just under 5K euro if you want to have a go yourself... (21T power? Mr Gamblen!!)

Does anyone remember the yellow Honda (or Toyota?) powered example on ebay recently? For sale in the states for about $20K.

Only wish I had seen one for sale at 20k$, I would have bid a great deal more, even if it did have a 'japanese' engine in it.

Yes the 220, came from the use of a 21t engine, not sure though if this one ever hit the streets, the only ones I have seen, 3 of the 5 produced (I believe) that reached the road had Renault 2 ltr engines, either on carbs (2X45DCOE) or injection, although the injection might have been an 'after fitment'.

All in all though a very rapid machine, great shame that Darrian has gone a 'bit quiet' as I would still be the first in the queue for one, as although I was the same height at 21 and then fitted snuggly into my A110, I can no longer fit, but can fit in the MC !

At a guess today you might be looking at 45k for an equivelent one to be built, if you could find somone to build it! Others have ventured into starting a limited production, but non have persued it past 'planning'.

Anyone intrested! A lovely thought to own such a iconic shape without the 'limitations' of the A110 'age' engineering.

Now the most intresting fact, I believe the owner of the '220' (or maybe this one should be a 185!) in the picture provided the real A110 for the moulds to be made up from.

Be very easy to drop a J7R turbo lump in since its the same block only a triple valve head, as fitted to the TXi R21/R25 130 bhp standard, not bad for a standard road car of its time.

Shame the replicas/kits cost so much as the 110 was the car that started my love affair. I cant afford an original and I cant afford a replica either.:cry:

Imagine a110 with 300 BHP .....well I can dream cant I :wink:

GTA Tow Car

The GTA atmo towcar belongs to Paul Godfrey (member of CAR). That is the car I owned from 1992 to 2003. I am not sure who the A110 belongs to but, in keeping with the nature of the event, the club did source a genuine ex-works A110.

As to the GTA I put those nice AZEV wheels on it - they have lasted well. I also fittend the GTA nose badge to each wheel (got them for £10 each many years ago from a French stand at Coys festival many years ago. It must be up to about 90,000 miles now and still going strong. It was reasonably rust free underneath and is a rare ABS and air equipped atmo.

If you want to buy it Paul might do you a deal.

John, it wasn't an A110, it was a replica. That was the point of the thread, it was a little quiz/challenge for us!

Most casual observers don't notice the difference.

I'd still like one though!

The concept for the Monte Carlo MC220 is actually John Wheeler's and the cars were built to his instructions based on a Darrian chassis and suspension with most of the work, including the body moulding being undertaken by Tim Duffee (Darrian) to John's instructions. John is a long time A110 enthusiast and currently owns the ex-Vialle Racing A110 European Rallycross Championship winning car that is fitted with one of the very rare DOHC 807-G4 4-valve per cylinder engines.
