Now i'm back on the road I'd thought i'd share my next project for NPY.

I'm looking to fit a rally tripmeter/computer.. You can see the sort of thing here

Looking at the sensors, they do a whole rake of different types but i'm leaning towards one that picks up a speedo pulse, called rather grandly, the Dividing Prescaler...

The manual says

"Digital signal required is low (= less than 1 volt) high (= more than 4 volts). "

Anyone know if the GTA speedo sensor will be able to drive this?

John C will tell you......

you could always rig up it's own sensor, looks like it works with anything

then will you be putting

SYMES AB-
WILSON AB-

on the rear windo or the front wing :?: :wink:

Sorry guys, I just don`t know, I would have to measure it on a `scope if push comes to shove, but not for a while as the Alp is in bits awaiting spares from Germany. I am sure someone else in the tuning game will know though :wink:

:lol: weeellll... as for me, I've never bothered as the signal isn't connected to the early Renix ecu, and only used in the later Fenix versions for the likes of the 610 with road speed related boost control. I would suspect it's just a passive inductive sensor however, and hence will not give a nice square wave 0 - 4 or 5Vdc output.

However, you could make a simple signal conditioner circuit to give you this output, it's not too difficult to do.

John C may even make you up a little board :wink:

Jules..... I have not actually checked this out with a `scope, but having done some studying of the Speed Sensor signal for another member, I am pretty shure that you could pick up the signal you require off the actual Speed Board, the one on the RHS of the instrument cluster. If you look at the pic below of the connector at the top of that board, connect the earth of your input lead to the left hand pin, the one with a bare wire & brown lead, and the inner of your lead to pin 3 from the left....the mauve wire, and there is a good chance that the speed sensor pulses have been processed to a high of around 5 volts, and the low around zero.
Its worth giving it a try. To check this out, what I would do is jack the back of the Alp up on axle stands, start car put in gear, and just touch your input wires on to those pins, and see if your unit bursts into life ..............this is always assuming you have not found another way to connect your unit up :wink:

Hi John...thanks very much for the info.... for my first attempt i've gone for a wheel NUT sensor. As the girl from the supplier said, measure distance not electricity :lol:

Thanks for the tip though, i think you approch would work quite well as they most of these devised only need a slight pulse to trigger.......i'll let you know how i get on...J

Wheel sensor fitted, power connected without breaking anything and tripmeter tested and working :)

only damage so far, one sheared bolthead :lol:

Now, the wheel sensor is looking at the brake disk,so its getting about 50 triggers per wheel rotation :roll: ...so i'm back to Victoria at Brantz for a pre-scaler divider to step it down as its outside its calibration :roll:

other Alp events....sailed through MOT on Friday :D but one caliper on the way out :( having a refurb fitted Thursday..... :!:

....and 4 slot cars converted to digital :D

You could put a trigger wheel on the drive shaft, with 1 tooth if that is all you need.
Otherwise, just areldite a small piece of steel to the drive shaft as an alternative

ha ha...a whole site dedicated to trigger wheels :lol: that almost beats tyrestretch.com :lol:

Would have been a good option though, i've had a right mare, too many triggers on the brake disks....so close yet so far...i can tell you exactly how many millimeters between my house and The Bull :!: ........but i have a cool fix..., Brantz are making us a custom pre-scaling divider board...... now thats customer service for you :wink:
