Radiator Fans

Postby rupert » Fri May 27, 2005 6:19 pm

Okay, the thermostat switch works, I can hear a click when the contacts are shorted, but the fans don't work. One fan is a bit stuck... rubs against the surround, the other fan is clear..
Is there a fuse? Can't see one on the board, is it somewhere else? :shock:
Help appreciated.....

On mine ( air con ) there are two 30 amp fuses ,drivers side behind headlamp cover ,also a 1-5 rated rotary dial switch .These went in a big way about a year ago,melted,and the fans stopped.Replaced the fuses and it's been fine since, no idea what the cause was :?

Thanks, I'll have a look.
The rotary dial thing is the temp control for the Air Con.

I only have 1 fan, but no air-con.
Is it 2 fans on air-con cars then?

Has any one added a second fan to assist with engine cooling, does it work well having 2 fans?

If it does, where can I get a 2nd fan from, cheaply? I might consider fitting 1 with an in-cabin switch, for those times when in heavy traffic or when a real canning is required.

Aircon = 2 fans

No aircon = 1 fan

2 fans is a great upgrade for any modded car or with mods planned.

Lots of Renault & other make fans will fit without too much trouble.

I fitted twin Gate fans from a Cosworth to mine. Fitted in front of the rad to blow rather than suck.

8) Due to lack of availability Down under I had a custom Aluminium radiator made. To combat overheating at traffic lights I fitted two 12" "Derale" Tornado Electric Fans, although 10" would have in hindsight, fitted better. I've never had an overheating problem since. Chris.
