What was your first ever car?

Postby BIG_MVS » Thu Dec 29, 2011 8:35 pm

Not sure if this has been posted before but I thought it would be a bit of fun. I was thinking about our new members preference for a first car.

Mine was a 1990 Peugeot 309 1.6 GR in Rosso Red 8) No pics of the actual car but it was very similar to this including the missing hubcaps!

I was 19 after having 2 years on my Mum's insurance first in her Renault 11 1.7 TXE.

So what was your own first pride and Joy? Did anyone actually have an Alpine as their first car  ?

Fiat 124 Berlina. 1970 1200cc twin carb. White with black interior just like this one but right hand drive. It went quite well for the period and was very comfortable.

Mates and me went everywhere in it, Blackpool, Newcastle, North Wales, Bolton! Happy days!

My first car was a red Austin 1100 like the famous, or infamous, Basil Fawlty car. I never had to treat it like this as it was quite reliable.

My first car was a 2 door 1966 Ford Cortina Mk1 1200 Delux pre-cross flow, with extra unused rear axle brackets an a hump under the boot carpet (LC) which I found out after I sold it what type of shell it was  :x
I rebuilt the engine (1st year apprentice at the time) which ran for 20 minutes then died then sat on the drive for further 2 years until I got a Fiat 131 TC.

You Cad sir!!!

No it was definitely not a Lada, you can be so hurtful. :(

A couple of years ago I had a jolly lad’s weekend for my birthday in Madrid and we saw a huge convoy of Lada's with Police motorcycle escorts stopping the traffic and all of that. I was getting really confused about such lavish treatment for Lada's until I saw a number of coupes, then I realised it was the SEAT 124 Owners Club. Some of the coupes looked to be in very nice condition.

£50 Beetle 1300 when i was 16, MOT failure on the floopan, mechanics were fine so used to drive it round my dads field, had all of the best intentions of restoring it and kept it.... for 25 years,. finally got round to selling it last year to a local guy who builds trikes etc so it's back on the road now .... well parts of it are....

I still own my first car a Suzuki Whizzkid - loads of fun to drive - have owned it for 22 years now. Has been rebuilt twice and is currently in my garage hasn't moved since some scrot stole it a few years ago.
