Nice bit of thinking and work there Paul, but I think that I would have had the nut section of the adaptor turned off up to the flange which would have let the sensor protude further into the thermostat housing, but if it works... so much for my pickey point.

Hi Andy
You were right the first sensor that came from the States was no good. It was from the car you suggested and was an odd size for a Renault 3/8"
