Speakers in a Spider?

Postby johnpaul » Mon May 21, 2012 6:28 pm

I'm looking for any advice on installing a little stereo in a Spider. I've got the headunit and remote ordered (Kenwood 700U marine unit and matching remote) to be mounted in the little cubby ahead of the front wheel arch and on dash respectively.
It's the speaker location is causing me a headache as I don't want to cut/drill any trim etc. Any advice?

I love the look of the old skool TS44 but I think they and the 150's are a little under powered.
I'm probably going to build the pods myself and get them covered in ally or sprayed to match the frame/body. I've got my eye on some 4'' components from Focal but the problem is where to put them

ipod is definately the best solution for a Spider.

Whatever you don't cut any panels for speakers etc

...no panels will be damaged and it's a very small, light and completely reversible install. I just want some radio/mp3 when I'm pottering about on the roads round here stuck behind tractors (definitely bluetooth in ears for motorways etc)
I know Renault supplied an Alpine installation kit for the Spider and the accessories brochure shows the head unit but I wanted to know where the speakers went or if anyone had found a good discrete spot.
If it all sounds crap it can always go in the family banger

PS does anyone know if Elia still do their soft top?, it appears on their website for 999 Euro but I'm not sure how up-to-date their site is. Not had an email reply from them and KTEC their UK distributor would not help.

nice, relaxing and quiet Elia sports exhaust was already fitted to the car when I bought the car  .... Talking of Elia they got back to me today with the good news that they are still producing the soft top, lead time is about 2 weeks and at 1020 euros including shipping it's cheaper than Mr Toor's second hand offering on Ebay.
