eek... that be a crack then  started in the pressing stresses, combined with what must have been inferior metal...

Refurb is good, done it no problem on the friction disk. Techni Clutch is another one that does that; they do the job although not easy to deal with when I knew them.

Scoff say these guys are good and reasonable

Yeap it's a mighty crack!! Seems like it's a common UN1 problem. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Undecided if I should also replace, while I am at it the crank oil seal, and the spigot bearing........ All looks ok at the moment but with the luck I have had recently.............

I noticed this while i was unbolting the gearbox linkages, and now the box is out i could take a better picture, any ideas what the small pipe does? looks pretty squashed. Looks like somebody has unbolted the box before in situ.

Seem to lead onto a plastic canister on the rear... shall I leave it or try and blow my head off to try and fix it? I guess it's just an emission bolox??

As per usual things are moving very slowly, but getting there. Received the subframe back from powder coating. It was blasted, galvanised and then coated. Glad after the blasting it all looked good with no major rust issues. Mini Dini seems to approve

The chap that did it he is a contact from work and seemed very reasonable with the price. PM if you want to know more.

Yes alternator, I will not rust it just breaks into pieces........ I have spotted on the Flea that BMW have a similar thing but at £10 to £15 a go, it can become expensive after I have ordered a few.....

My cover was missing completely, so there was nothing to attach the orange cooling hose to (someone had strapped it up with a tie-wrap), but after experimenting I found that the standard plastic valeo cover for the GTA alternators can be adapted to fit with some careful cutting - and the 3 bolt holes required are already there. Your local auto electrical factor can probably tell you the part number, but if you are interested I can probably find that for you. However, I guess there are quite a lot of 2nd hand GTA alternator covers around anyway. It does work, looks neat, and the cover can be correctly orientated to link the cooling pipe.

I did manage to acquire an original A610 alternator cover in the end; that had come from a Venturi but I guess they will be thin on the ground too. The Renault supplied A610 cover was only ever listed with the alternator - never as a separate part, but typically Renault ran out of stock ages ago!
