A610.. parts hunting...

Postby The Saint » Fri Oct 26, 2012 4:17 pm

Hi,
Well I have got the car, and now the fun of finding parts has started.
To get this car registered in the UK, I need to get it MOT'd, and the front left dip headlamp is cracked, as well as the fog/driving light unit. I know the headlight is an MOT fail, but not sure on the fog light? but it needs sorting.
The Wheel bearings are showing their age too..
I have been hunting the web for replacement headlight and I found the part number on this site of 03013056000 and when I did more searching I found this on ebay....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130785131673? ... 1423.l2649

( Notice the bosch part number of 16516403 in the sticker on the rear of it ?? )
I found it strange that they call it a fog light plus the beam angle is wrong for their driving??? but hey it looks like the part I want, and the list of cars it fits, must be helpful in finding this part.

But before I get it from over the pond, I wanted to know if any of you guys may know where I can get one in the UK? ( Mr Dell?? )
I have also found a set of fog/driving lights for a 944 which look similar but unsure???
As for the bearings, if any of you know the bearing numbers, that would be a great help.. Save me time taking them off to read the part and order....
I will be adding to the list on this site to part numbers and suppliers etc once I have found stuff....
Any help appreciated.

Hi,

The best place I've found in the UK to get UK spec lights for the A610 is Tytherleigh Vehicle Electrics (Chard) - phone 01460 64255.

They sell genuine Bosch parts at a substantial discount - for instance the last distributor cap I bought from them (genuine bosch) was £41 (not that long ago) and I bought both main and dipped beam/sidelight units for the A610 from them - I can't remember precisely what I paid but around £25 each rings a bell. I'll see if I can find my invoices tomorrow. Helps if you can quote the original bosch numbers - your lights should have the bosch label on the back of the reflector - and they will find the current number (which will be very similar, if not the same). Broadly speaking, they seem to manage around a 40% discount over full list.

The chaps I have dealt with there have been extremely helpful, they order the parts and only ask for payment once they have arrived. Delivery from them is always quick.

I did pass their details to Stephen some time ago and I believe he might have ordered some parts too (dist caps etc). See what he thinks but I've found nowhere cheaper.

Best of luck with your parts hunt!

Let us know if you get the uk spec dipped lights this way, they are definitely not a610 only as they have an unused sidelight bulb in them too(well the ones in my car do) and I guess they are a coach part.
The light mechanisms are GM items and the in bumper lights are shared with a Porsche, but I thought it was a 928. If you get stuck I have the original bosch numbers somewhere.
The in bumper lenses are expensive...You may want to sit down....

I ended up buying my fog lights from a Porsche specialist, 928 model, buy them complete it will save a lot of time as they seem to get seized onto the plastic casing. Not cheap but worth it, I think I paid £400 for both complete, Renault prices £400 each!!

Any chance you can tell me the Porsche part number of the fog units?? or even the model year etc, so I know what to ask for???

I have taken the one side out, and got all the Bosch numbers, called Tytherleigh Vehicle Electrics, but even they cannot help now :( all parts are discontinued, and Bosch have stopped importing them, so the guy told me..

I have will do a search on the Porsche sites for a unit, once I know what I am looking for, but thanks for the pointer... I knew this would be fun... NOT!
BTW I noticed that the internals of these fogs can be swopped to the other side, so if you get a replacement DONT bin it...!!

As for the DIP beam on ebay USA??? I will send an email and find out more, but I think the beam pattern will be out, but it does have the redundant parking bulb in it!!

Watch this Space!! ( I was sitting down before I purchased the car!! )

Quick update on the DIP lights on ebay USA.. I sent them a message and they said that they maybe euro spec as they purchased a large obsolete stock.. They are going to send me a close up picture of the glass, and both the yellow labels on the rear, this will confirm if they are euro spec....
I will keep you guys updated on this.... maybe we could have a club purchase on them??? but have to watch that dam import tax!!

I also had some luck with a local breaker... he said he has a Porsche 928 in stock, so I am calling in on Monday to see.. "Fingers crossed"

Just another update on these Ebay USA lamps.. I had the guy send a close up picture of the lens, and as you can see it IS the correct pattern, comparing it with my old one... So I have ordered a set.. I will just wait now, and see how much the import tax will be  "hoping to get off with it, but knowing my luck I doubt it!!!"

New Ebay version

My old Cracked one

I know the new lamp looks more curved, but it is the camera angle, and the rear Bosch sticker is the same as my old lamp too... Also another indicator is the small arrow in the bottom right that shows the beams direction.

I told him about the club, and others are showing interest in these and may wish to buy some, IF this works out, so he said he could do a deal on them...IF anyone else is interested.
I will keep you all updated when they arrive..

Certainly interested....let me know when you have them in your hand.
It's not just the duty, it's the dhl charges that hurt, usually 15 quid to pass the duty onto you, USPS is cheaper in this regard.

Hi Lee,
These have been sent vis USPS, so I will wait and see, but sure I will let you know more once I have them in my hands...
Still looking for the fog lights, as the breakers near me broke the sodding thing trying to take it out. GRRRRRR I told him they were a pain to remove, and I would do it.. but sod it... So still looking of the fog light.. even the 928 forums know how few there are about.

Maybe this will be the only option?

OMG!!! Shock and horror of it!!!

NEVER! I think I would stick skewers in my eyes before de-facing an A610 like that!! LOL

I am shocked that you would suggest such a hidious thing...

I have found a new parts place, but would have too replace both sides to get it to look right... but even the new ones are getting scarce. You have an option of just the lense, which is a real pain in the butt to change, or a lamp insert, that is the front part with lense and reflectors, a much easier replacement, or a complete unit.

Image

I think I will be changing both my lamp inserts for now. as trying to get a quick fix for the one side at a breakers looks like a dead end.
I would recommend to all A610 owners, to start to find spares and store them away... I certainly am going to!!

Not saying I liked it Vince, just that it may eventually be the only option. Nothing about Tim Jeffries A610 is standard anyway, believe me! Stunning car though and got to be the quickest A610 (probably in the world?!) but its a racecar so having an expensive 928 light unit (as well as the rediculously priced indicator units) is not really an option.
