VS Turbo was blown and expensive to replace.
Word on the street was the much cheaper (from Renault) Megane 225 Turbo was a direct replacement so decided to take a chance.
Here they are side by side.
You can see they are almost identical externally.
Main difference is size of compressor wheel:
165bhp Turbo compressor wheel
225 bhp Turbo compressor wheel
The existing turbo was a recent replacement (less than 4000 miles ago) and had failed with loads of play in the shaft.
Cracked oil drain was probably one of the reasons along with all of the nasty sealant everywhere
It was also apparent that the heatshield behind the turbo had not been replaced last time and the bulkhead insulation was being burnt. However it came as a bit of a shock exactly how big the missing item was when the new one finally arrived!!
This was clearly intended to be installed with the engine bay empty so with the engine in situ it needed a little trimming and encouragement to fit retrospectively.
Here's the new turbo and heatshield installed.
Still a fair bit of replumbing before startup.
(Engine type is F4R turbo and turbo is Mitsubishi TD04).
Next jobs/mods:
Oil change for Mobil 1 5W40 (recommended for Laguna GT and Megane 225)
8J18 Gloss Black Megane 225 Cup Wheels.
Lowered Suspension
Crossdrilled 325mm brakes.
Megane 225 Injectors.
Rolling road and re-map.
