...However, the standard Valeo cover from GTA alternators can be made to fit well (I've done it), with a little careful trimming, so that it orientates correctly - PT
I do have a spare GTA one, but It did not seem it was going to be an easy fit.

Here's a pic of the Dizzy heatshield and it's manufacturer if it helps? As for the A/C I never used it or had it gassed but I believe Richard got Mr Rabbets to repair/re-gas it?

Looking very nice by the way, I am very jealous of the wheels. Surely Mr Fieldmouse could come out of wheel refurb retirement to do mine?

I can get them blasted and powder coated for a reasonable rate these days if the Mouse won't come out his hole .
I've got two dizzy shields but they belong to others ....
Yes supposedly re-gassed etc but there certainly no gas in it when it arrived with me .
I'm waiting on the guys to do the geo and re-gas if poss otherwise it might have to go to a specialist .Just waiting on the conversion kits to arrive as I've got one for ELY as well to see what happens .

Guess I'll just have to show you sometime - trust me, different beasts or not, the Valeo plastic cover can be made to fit very neatly. It really isn't that difficult, and mine is currently sitting on the car, connected to the cooling tube. I acquired the correct cover later but haven't yet switched them.

AC regas...

Postby Stunned Monkey » Sat Sep 28, 2013 6:54 pm

You can get ozone-friendly "drop-in" R12 replacement gas. It comes in various flavours depending the manufacturer but RS24 is a common one. Most high street shops will offer you a "conversion" but this is just an excuse to charge you for some snake oil when they don't have the right gas. Any AC place specialising in classics should have it.

To properly convert to R134a you need new pressure switches, a new orifice tube and replace all O-rings. Ideally do the compressor and the hoses too. At least the Alpines have hard lines along the chassis and you don't need to worry about evaporator or condenser.

I can get a picture but not for a few weeks - don't have a decent camera, just a low res non-smart phone which just won't do. My son will be home soon, I'll get him to take pics. Did you mean new Valeo cover, or new A610 original alternator cover? The Valeo cover I adapted was brand new from a local auto electrical supplier (parkinsons) - it is the identical part fitted to GTA alternators. The A610 cover was second hand, but it's pretty good - if I remember rightly I think it came from Martin Gutkowski, he will remember I'm sure. Apologies to Martin if I've remembered incorrectly. The cover had definitely come off a Venturi, that's why I suggested tackling the Venturi fraternity.

Sorry I can't provide pics just now, but if you have a spare GTA cover, hold it against the back of the A610 alternator and rotate until the two adjacent stub connections align with the oval cutout in the cover. The three mounting holes should align with three of the casing bolts, but you will see where you have to trim away part of the lower rim of the cover where it fouls and stops the cover from seating properly. I'm sure I can't be the only one of us who has tried/achieved this? Apparently the original A610 cover went out of stock years ago, but you never could buy them separately, they were supplied with the alternator originally, but for many years the A610 alternator has been supplied without any cover seemingly. PT.

Delivered safely today and back home with Richard .
Hopefully he's happy with it now and will get some time to enjoy before it gets tucked up for the Winter .
Stupid Renault developed an intermittent wash wipe and a non moving mirror on the drive there though so I'll be popping back in a few weeks to smack it upside the head

Are these parts available MrD ? I need a wiper stalk and a mirror motor I think ......

Mirror motor no problem.

Wiper stalk was on promo list. I'll look to see if we have one. Mr Metters might have a spare.
