Has anyone bought or used one of those turbo heat shields you can get do eBay?

Or is the hype to good to be true?

I expect the latter but your views would be appreciated.

Hi Dave,

Yes I have, but I wouldn't recommend them on internally wastegated turbos with precious little cooling air - as daft as that sounds there is still excess heat to lose, and what I found was the internal wastegate pivot pin would seize in the bushings, and then free off when it cooled down - through the additional heat loading now being flowing out through the wastegate part of the housing ie everything was hotter a a result of the jacket. I was lucky, it was seizing full open, but could have equally seized when closed if it was already nipping. So I would recommend not doing it from personal experienced. But there again it may work for you, it was a high quaity turbo and fully Garrett.

Thanks Martin,
That's a no then.
I will stick to plan B and copy Ruperts design of fitting small fans to holes from old inter cooler pipes in the bulk head.
Bought one now to fit.
