Windscreen for a GTA

Postby John Sweet » Wed Jul 09, 2014 6:52 pm

Whilst visiting Le Mans for the 24 hour race my windscreen got cracked. Autoglass told me today that Renault could not supply them - does anyone have one (new) or know where I can get one please?

Thanks,

John

i have just bought the very last GTA/A610 screen in the uk for hedley's car, if you want a new one it will have to be made special order 6 to 8 week delivery and then prey it fits, you will also need a new seal.
i have a second hand one but it dose have a chip on the passenger side.

From when I last had mine replaced many moons ago, I seem to remember the Autoglass guy telling me that the patterns were held by the glass manufacturer as Andy just said (so no need to go to Renault). Lead time wasn't as much of an issue then as they held a few in constant stock and re-ordered when they got below a threshold. The Autoglass guy claimed that they actually owned the manufacturing company anyway - whether this is still true I don't know.

At the time the one that arrived for my car was cracked anyway when it got to the Autoglass workshop, so I had a bit of wait as stocks were down to only 2 left and a new one had to be shipped from wherever they held their supplies.

So I guess back then they were made in small batches. Or with demand as low as it currently is, probably single one offs.

not if the manufacturer hasn't made them before...... they would need a pattern to copy from then there would be a minimum initial order amount.... normally 20 units

dellboy gets them made by a specialist..... same guy I use for spider screens, ordering 1 unit will be expensive, that doesn't matter as the windscreen company will pay the price as they are obliged to if its the only one available.

I had Autoglass fit one to JIL a few years ago and even then they said they had to have it made .It certainly took a while to arrive + it took them 3 attemps to get it right .It wouldn't sit correctly top driver's side ,about an inch out ......

Have a read of Lee's old thread - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5011

Mine was indeed made by Pilkington all those years back and was a perfect fit. Might be worth giving them a shout:

http://www.pilkington.com/europe/uk+and ... efault.htm

Interestingly they list the A310 but not the GTA. So is it back to the muddle over which is which that Lee had?

http://www.pilkington.com/europe/uk+and ... enault.htm

And likewise it could well all be outsourced to Andy / Steve's guy anyway. More questions than answers, but at least they have contact details there so worth a shot.

we can get a run done if there's enough interest,
it's also possible to make them heated like spider screens, but that would require a switch and relay installing in the car though.
I will liase with delboy on Monday those interested in buying one let us know asap, price for a standard screen should be quite reasonable if we get enough takers....

I quite like the heated idea, simple enough to wire in.... but again I don't use my car during the winter... so kinda defeats the point.. but a nice option to have... try to get a price for both with and without... ( just out of interest )....

I would prefer without heater - I have had a couple of cars with heated windscreens and you can see the wires - and this may be worse with the rake of the GTA screen. It is only really useful in winder when it is icy so no real benefit for me.

Autoglass / Insurance company (Chauser for mine I think via Heritage and Norton) will pay for the screen at it is insured.

Given that I have a Le Mans with a black room, just debating whether I should get the roof painted whilst the screen is out.

get the roof painted....very good idea. don't forget to tell your insurer it will need a new windscreen seal.
