Another milestone reached today...Lee took the car for its VIC check and it passed (as car had been written off). So I can now apply for V5 and get it taxed...
Well done Lee. :Cheer

Car gone home now ...well it's just come back for a post shakedown check on it's way to Carfest North .500 odd miles om the rebuilt lump and fully bedded now .
All well ,dropped the oil and looks good ,no shiny slithers in there ,type D or plastic strips even ...............Nut and bolt check and an A/C charge + Dave has picked up a box of trimmy bits to keep himself occupied during the quieter moments up 'Tnorthfest .

I now have his Atmo in for a bit of tarting up and hope to get that all sorted so they can both sit together and chat about :RATS in the garage .

Hmm....at a roundabout today had someone go up my rear...he was a maseuse from Bromley...(behave)
I mentioned Bromley as that is where the car last wrote itself off. The damage is limited.

Image

Anyhoo - split / bent bumper and a cracked rear light...and rubbed off the "alpine" decals...I don't know if there is any damage to subframe/exhaust

All a bit annoying as I have only been using it a couple of months...the car that hit me was a hire car..so I think it'll be an insurance job...will find out what my options are. I'll let the insurers assess the damage and make an estimate...not quite sure what they will do as you can't buy new replacements for bumpers or rear lights...

I'll be ringing around in the morning for guidance and looking for parts/quotes from my "preferred suppliers".....I sense I will be better off nominating how it gets fixed.

The claims handler I spoke to said they could arrange for a comparable hire car while my car gets repaired - I don't really need a car - but I am intrigued as to what they would provide !!!

Oh no! What a bummer, the cars cursed!

Can a car actually be written off twice? Not sure?

Anyway if it was me I would get RATS to quote for the replacement parts (if he has them) and somehow get a full respray out of it (the bumper won't match so the whole car will have to be resprayed Mr Insurance man).

Have you got a sore Gregory too ;-)

Either way what a pain after all that hard work. Fingers crossed it all ends well.

I have none of those parts by the way.

Oh no poor you!!!! It was looking and sounding so good at Goodwood too. I'm sure everything will get sorted. A raid on the Cave of Dell might bring up a few things....

Sorry to see that Dave. At least it looks like a fairly light bit of damage and I take it that it's not damaged the glassfibre at all.

Should all repair fairly easily once you get the parts and even the rear bumper is probably salvageable with some specialist plastic welding. My front bumper had an impact crack plastic welded and it was perfect and I guess they're the same material.

By the way, did I spot you in Leatherhead in one of your GTAs a week or two back?

Sorry to hear about the bump Dave but more interested to know how you came about the above information?

Hi..thanks all for the votes sympathy...and offers of help

Darren...yes probably was me or my wife in the bright lights of Leatherhead..not seen another blue one round these parts...

Mark...to answer your question....when we traded details I did think Massage was an unusual surname...turns out that was his profession.

I have looked at the damage a bit more..there are quite a few cracks in the fibreglass behind the bumper (on the rear wall of the engine bay)...and the wing is a bit crazed too...

Need to weigh up options...my insurers or the other party's claims handlers..pros and cons with each..also need to be careful of write-off (or perhaps not)....decisions decisions....

Still it could have been worse..no injuries...

Yes watch out for that. Check also around the door locks. I had a similar accident about 18 years ago (wow has it been that long) about two days after I got the GTA. I was driven into by a French lorry driver, very low speed and it impacted only the rear corner of the wing.

However the stress cracks have a habit of propagating through the gel-coat. The forces of the impact have to end somewhere and the door lock is an effective brick wall. It was repaired very well by Renault but 6 months later the cracks appeared under the paint. They weren't very visible, but you could see them in the right light. It's been repaired again since, but again it's still not perfect on that one side and a few of the stress cracks have re-appeared.

Go to Andy the Paint for a quote. It'll all be repairable, but the gel-coat may have to be ground back and the fibre-glass checked and repaired etc. Your insurance should allow you to select who you want to do the work, and it's going to be cheaper and better than the official route.

/\ /\

That's pretty much what happened to me with the Blue 610 insurance wise.

Luckily (I didn't have an agreed value, doh not done that yet on the red one come to think about it) there was a pretty much identical A610 in Blue to mine for sale at £15k so the assessor went off that (I didn't even have to point him to the ad he brought it with him when he came to assess.) . Just to give you an idea, the parts and Andy Fieldmouses labour came to £6k and they didn't bat an eye lid about that. As I say if you have a chat to Andy (wink wink) I'm sure he can push for a full respray so it will come back like new :up
