Help to find my Dad's old A310 (reg no: XKL 855X)

Postby bigtrev200 » Thu Dec 04, 2014 10:32 am

I know it's a long shot but I'm trying to track down my late father's old A310 (reg no: XKL 855X). He bought the car new in 1983 and sold it to another enthusiast in '89/'90-ish. The last time my Dad heard anything about it was that the guy he had sold it to had taken the engine out, but he sadly passed away soon afterwards and his son didn't want to sell it back as he planned to get it running again one day. This was back in 2000-ish.

I'd love to know if it's still around no matter what state it's in, and if anyone's got any info I'd really appreciate it. Just before my Dad passed away in the summer we asked him if he had many regrets in life and his reply was "Selling my Alpine"!

Yeah, I've already had a look at that thanks Dave. From what I can remember from when my Dad spoke about the car it was taken off the road in 1990 with an engine problem, so a big part of me is hoping it's still in the same garage. If only I knew where that garage was!

Nice Alpeen!

A couple of leads who might know where the car is are probably Richard Kimpton (I think he was into 310's) and a chap who now lives in Germany. John Sweet probably has their contact details if they are not looking in here.

They might know who owns the car or where it is.

Apart from that good luck with the search.

Or if you want to wet your Alpine whistle how about this beauty? :up

Do love the wide bodied 310's. Hope somebody from the community has info for you. It's amazing how many people do regret selling their Alpine's!

When you say a guy in Germany, do you mean Dave Bishop http://www.a310alpine.com/ ?

Also worth asking Paul Sage and Chris Rabbets.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've already dropped Paul Sage an e-mail (I remember meeting him in the late '80s at an Alpine track day at Goodwood!) but haven't had a reply yet, and I'll give Chris Rabbets a mail now. Fingers crossed....

Paul Sage is a good shout, he's one of the few that would actually tell you if he knew....

Don't forget the link above for Dave Bishop as well.

Around the time I bought my A310, nearly 4 years ago, Paul Sage had an A310 for sale on his website. It had the wide body kit and was a similar shade of red to the one in your photo. It also had similar wheels. Probably not the same car, more coincidental.
You could also make an enquiry to the membership secretary at Club Alpine Renault. He might be able to trace any C.A.R. member ownership of the car.

How are you getting on with the search?

Call me sad but I have just been browsing through some old pics and found this! Could this be you and your old fella and a trim Geoff Capes looking on?

Some sort of track day from years ago, sorry no more details. Check this out as well 310 fans!

Good find Martin..

that looks like goodwood to me...(looking out from the airfield carpark)
It is flat enough to have an airfield..the geology looks like the south downs....and the last photo has a square tower...that, i think is the cathedral bell tower at chichester..visible from goodwood.
..so i think you have indeed hit the jackpot with a photo of "bigtrev" as a nipper...maybe with his dad.
(as he mentioned meeting Paul Sage at a meet at Goodwood in the 1980s).

Good detective skills Mr Williams. I have pm'd bigtrev so hopefully a nice surprise for him.

Turbodog has a lead on the actual car as well so we might be able to track it down fingers crossed!

Seeing those few pictures has brought back so many fond memories. That is indeed me and my Dad at Goodwood quite a few years ago, and it really was once of the best days of my childhood (and it certainly helped feed my addiction for track days as I got older!).

So far my search for the car hasn't thrown anything up unfortunately, so any possible leads would be a massive step forward. I'm all ears......

By the way, I think that track day took place in 1984. For some strange reason I remember we had Queen's new album, The Works, blaring out all the way from Kent to Goodwood and I've just checked and it was released in '84. It's always nice to put a date on a picture :-)
